Jets Interested in Kellen Davis.

I would actually be a very big fan of this signing as I was pretty high on Davis coming out of michigan state.  At 6'6", 260+ lbs he ran a 4.59 forty and can actually block.  I know I'm probably just reading too much into this, but Idzik seems to be interested in stock-piling a lot of big pass-catchers at both the TE and WR spots that it seems to me he's trying to surround a young signal caller with enough weapons to develop correctly.  Could this be a hint he's seriously looking at Geno Smith or someone in the second?

The Jets are interested in free agent TE Kellen Davis.
Davis has been drawing a ton of interest since being released by the Bears. He's an intriguing red-zone option at 6-foot-7 and 267 pounds, and he can also block. Pairing Davis with Jeff Cumberland still wouldn't be a cause for excitement.

Davis sucks, but I too was a fan when he was coming out of Michigan St. I think Mangini was interested in him as a DE/OLB at one point. He's a big athlete. Leonard Pope and Kellen Winslow are passable one year depth options. TE seems like a prime position to use a draft pick on for Los Yets.

For where he was drafted, yea he hasn't lived up to that at all, dude is still very raw.  But i'll take a high upside guy that can actually block, who has the chance to develop into something over the next matt mulligan.

Not trying to argue with you, but based on what?

Davis, DHB, Gibson who's only 6', but more of a possession receiver.  It seemed like more in my head, but it's clear he wants to surround whomever our quarterback is with some larger bodies.  Or he is just interested in a lot of cheap, high risk low reward type players and wants to see them play in a season where they aren't expected to be too competitive.

At this point it seems like  a bunch of injured backups(if that) and really it's a throw away season.  It all depends on the draft. If they have a good draft with a few good starters, it's rebuilding for the future.  If they have a bad draft,  then who knows what they are doing besides being cheap.

Kellen Davis is a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad football player.

He's still raw, but he's the type of player you want to give a shot this year in what everyone is essentially labeling a 'throw-away' year.  He's got elite physical tools and can actually block.  Better than having a schmuck like Matt Mulligan be your blocking specialist who has zero chance of developing into anything else.

Davis can't catch, can't run, and regularly trips over his own feet. The only difference between he and Matt Mulligan is that the former has a reputation as a good blocker because he's big and slow and dumb and the latter has a reputation as a good blocker because he can actuay block. The Bears practically drove Davis to the airport, and they're not exactly chockablock with young talent on offense. The guy's a bum.

All true, but I'd just assume take a shot on someone who has 5 years of NFL experience and elite size-speed combination for a minimum contract as opposed to getting excited about a rugby player or f*cking jeff cumberland.
