Cimini: Ditka Call the Jets a Joke

Still not sure what any of this has to do with the playoffs "slipping Ditka's mind", per this writer.  Both players got the Broncos to the playoffs.  One player succeeded in winning a game, the other did not.

Well, that cinches it, then---Tim is better than Peyton.  Dumb Jets did not realize it.

I think Ditka's thinking on Tebow is affected by the fact that Ditka coached one of the most dominant teams in history, the '85 Chicago Bears, who had Jim McMahon at QB.

McMahon was considered a hotshot coming out of college, but he really was journeyman.  But for that one golden season he was a superstar.  He showed up wearing a punk haircut and punk clothes, and his brash personality became the symbol of the team.  For that one year, he basically willed the team into a great season.  After that, he fell off considerably, though he did hang around the league a long time.

Tebow couldn't be more different from McMahon personality wise, but he was very similar in how he could get a team behind him.  I think that Ditka became convinced with McMahon that personality trumps talent, a leader who can get his team believing in him will take you very, very far.  That's why I think Ditka is behind Tebow.

He willed the team to what?  He was carried by a great defense and running game.  Payton had like 1,500 at almost 5 per.  Here were the numbers McMahon had while willing the Bears to that incredible season: 56.9% for 2,392 yards 15 Tds and 11 Ints.  His Pete Rozelle headband deserved more press than he did.  Put Bert Jones or Neil Lomax on that team and they were undefeated.

This thing about Tebow "shattering Sanchez' psyche" that we've heard over and over from analysts... if you're a quarterback and your backup can't even throw the ball and still "shatters" your psyche, then you aren't cut out to be a quarterback in this league. Sorry. You know, God forbid he actually had a backup that could throw the ball, his psyche would have been, what, more than shattered? Dismembered?

I don't know that I buy the whole "shattered psyche" angle to begin with. Sanchez moped on the sidelines long before Tebow showed up. How about he's just a bad QB?

Confidence is about the belief that good things will happen for you.  Sanchez would have to be delusional in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary to be confident at this point.

no confidence is more about the belief that you can make any situation better and that no matter what cards you are dealt that you can adapt, elevate, overcome and prosper

That's some serious old school posting right there.
