Mike Tannenbaum thinks so By Dom Cosentino | NJ.com Follow on Twitter on July 25, 2014 at 10:11 AM, updated July 25, 2014 at 10:15 AM CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Mike Tannenbaum took a stab at suggesting a role for Mike Vick even if Geno Smith turns out to be the Jets' starting quarterback, which, you know, is pretty likely. Tannenbaum, who spent seven seasons as the Jets' general manager, now works as an agent. But he's moonlighting as an analyst on the NFL Network for its training camp coverage. Thursday, he weighed in on the Jets' QB situation: "I think the Vick signing makes sense on a couple other levels. One, Michael Vick's been to the highs and the lows in the NFL, and that wisdom and experience is important, that's so valuable that he can pass along to Geno Smith. But there's another part that I know is really important to Rex Ryan, which is Michael Vick's gonna play this year ... he likes when the ball is in the hands of the quarterback that can make plays either throwing or running. "And it may be five plays one game, it may be 25 another game. But he is going to put pressure on the defense by giving the ball to a quarterback that can make plays with his feet." This is purely a guess, of course. The Jets brought Vick in to be Geno Insurance. Vick's 34 and injury-prone. Would they want to risk getting him injured by basically encouraging him to take hits in such a part-time role? Also, would the Jets want to disrupt Smith's rhythm by subbing in Vick? And remember: The Jets' Great Tim Tebow Experiment played out under offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, who's since been replaced by Marty Mornhinweg, who had occasionally used Vick in a change-of-pace role during their time together with the Eagles during one season. Five years ago. Edited July 25, 2014 by Jetsfan80
JoeC36 64,568
didn't tebow get like 12 plays all season? The only upside of the jets having tebow is that they didn't use him, put up with all the non-sense and essentially ended tebow mania.

I just looked it up because I wrote an article about this on the front page. He had 32 carries (3.2 YPC) and attempted less than 10 passes all year.

dbatesman 47,869
I think Tannenbaum has a really specific strain of the Fregoli delusion that makes him think everyone is Tim Tebow.
Bergen Jet 75,942
I am ok with the wildcat for random play or two a game, but please never in the middle of a drive where we are moving the fricken chains.
TnT 786
Super delusional... Ask him TODAY if Tebow was an absolute dumb trade, he'll probably tell you No.
Larz 71,407
I prefer to think of it as a ray lucas-like role

slats 109,138
Tannenbaum still thinks he's smarter than everyone else. Vick was brought in to play QB, specifically backup QB. He'll play when Geno needs to come out of a game. IF the Jets decide to do any wildcatting this season, they'll use Kerley in the role. They're not going to risk their brittle backup running the football on a gadget play.
MexiRoll6 14
The season can now officially begin. We have our first Tebow reference. Let the madness begin.
