Bowles' defensive scheme exposed without a shutdown corner?

We hired this guy because of the success Arizona had (and never stopped having ever since he left) defensively. They had a shutdown guy who could take away one side of the field with Patrick Peterson. For the most part last year he had that with Revis and we were much better than we are right now. Now with Revis' regression and no longer having that luxury of shutting down one side of the field, is Bowles' defensive scheme completely exposed?

What else can explain the regression we've seen from this defense? Personnel wise, there have been minimal changes. The only real difference is Revis not being the guy he used to be. Inexcusable for this level of ineptitude all because one player took a step back.

Yeah, he's pathetic. Not HC material. His pass D was sh*t last year as well and that too with Revis allowing the lowest completion percentage in the league.

I said it last year as well. This douchebag has no spine. He will punt on 4th and inches down scores with 6 minutes to go, but will go for it on 4th and 10, down 3 scores with 2 minutes left. Pure clueless garbage. Its not his fault though. He's just not an NFL level HC.

Not saying our defense was elite last year by any means, but anybody who's been watching this team since he's been the head coach sees just how huge the drop off has been. This defense is like, historically awful. Through 5 weeks we've been absolutely smoked by every quarterback we've played against. Not even remotely competitive. Last year we gave up yards, but we were good in the red zone and forced a bunch of turnovers. This year we look as bad as the Saints..

Absolutely agree. I hate switching HCs all the time, but when your HC has no clue, you are better off hitting that reset button.

Pryor is having a terrible year so far, clearly regressed.  The pass rushing backers aren't even whiffing the air around a QB, at least last year Mauldin didn't have a lot of sacks but he would at least make a QB uncomfortable with constant backside hurries

Pryor was always a liability in coverage. Even in his "breakout campaign" last year.

every pass play there is no pass rush and the guy who catches the ball is wide open and runs for YAC.  this is not b/c of a lack of a shutdown cb.

I believe that does have something to do with the lack of a shutdown CB, because when you have a guy that can take away a top receiver 1 on 1, you can put the focus elsewhere. Instead, we constantly have to have to double the #1 leaving opportunities for other receivers on the field.

This guy has zero fire. How as a defense do you even get fired up playing for a guy like this? Football is an emotional game.

Belichick shows fire? Herm showed fire and got made fun of.

Last season players were complimenting him because there wasn't any panic. Now he's being accused of being too calm.

no pass rush, with all those 1st round picks.  when they blitz they suck.  every time.  they're not even close to getting through.
