Check out the scene on the bridge at Helm’s Deep (where Viggo throws the dwarf). Those ******* super-orks weren’t sh*t. And what’s with Gandalf always swooping in to save everyone as the answer to every crisis? Talk about a thinly-veiled advert for European colonialism. Really disgusting imho. Tolkien abhorred allegory to the point that he addresses it in the preface. People assumed the west was the USA and the east Germany. Tolkien was fond of having uruks and orcs fight amongst themselves which gave the good guys an opening (Cirith ungol) to show their inherent moral inferiority. Preachy maybe but it works Gandalf was known as stormcrow by the rohirrim because he always seemed to show up just before the trouble. Jackson did a great job with LOTR, with some annoying changes like giving arwen a big romantic role and putting shelob on the 3rd movie.
