Jason at OTC say's there is 0 dead money, or cap hit.  I'll go with that.  If you have another link, please post it.

Ok

i think there are circumstances

being Bortles just had surgery on his wrist which makes him uncuttable before the deadline which makes It guaranteed.

Sorry, read it a couple weeks back and forgot the readons.

So yes, Jason is right...but not if Bortles is injured.

Bortles just had wrist surgery.

He will not be cuttable if he isn’t cleared by the first day which makes it guaranteed....as stated in the “contract notes” on your post.

The wrist surgery was elective surgery.  The injury happened early in the season.  He played through  it.  It's certainly nothing that will prevent him from playing 10 games next year.  He'd be insane to play that card

Dude, I’m telling you what I read.

If he is not medically cleared by the first day of the season...it becomes guaranteed. Elective surgery or not.

LOL, actually I hope your right.  I think the best move for the Jets is to sign Cousins, and use the draft capital, and reminding $50+-M, and the $46M next year to build a team.

I'm honestly not concerned about Denver.  Jax is the team that makes sense for me, if I was Cousins.

Like I said, I hope your right

Damnit...Don’t you put this on me!!!!! Lol

I would just like to look back 4-5 yrs from now and see WE made the right choice,..for once!

I like Cousins, and I def think he gives us the better chance to win then the top 3 qbs in the draft over the next 2 yrs....pray Mac puts some complimentary pcs around him.

My hunch, despite saying all the right things...that ultimately Cousins will play for whomever will pay him the most insane guaranteed deal imaginable.

Jets seem like the team most desperate of the likely Cousins suitors along with having the space to go overboard and fill in roster holes with lots of UDFAs in the coming years.

They can’t dump Bortles without absorbing his fully guaranteed 2018 salary of 19 mil.

Of course anything is possible, just more unlikely.

Actually, it isn't fully guaranteed. It was only guaranteed for injury last season.

Now it wont cost them a dime to cut him assuming they do it before the new league year (march 9th) at which point it THEN becomes fully guaranteed.

Free agent contract negotiations begin a couple of days before that.  It'd be a squeeze, but they could get Cousins to agree to a deal and then cut Blake before the deadline.

He just had wrist surgery and would have to be cleared. Don’t really know much about recovery time, but 3/9 would make it about 40 days...???

I'm not sure signing Cousins makes a ton of long term sense for the Jags, honestly. Probably gives them a good 2 year Super Bowl window but it could make it very difficult to re-sign a lot of the elite young talent they have. Not that Bortles is the answer but I'd try to get a cheaper alternative with less of a long term commitment.

I’d be really surprised if they move Bortles. If his surgery prevents him by being cleared before 3/9...they would have to sign whoever in hopes that they can get a trade for Bortles. That means either find a team willing to take on Bortles @ 1 yr 19 mil, which what they get in return would be next to nothing. OR hope Bortles is willing to agree to a sign and trade.

I have a hunch not many teams are convinced Bortles is their answer...seems like this year (putting two plus yrs together back to back)would determine whether he gets broken off some real $$$.

I agree -- the cheaper alternative would be a draft pick or a cheap vet (McCown type) who would be on the roster with him. If they had a better option than Henne last year I think Bortles would have lost his job early in the season. The current regime has little loyalty to him.

He had to have off season wrist surgery, which I believe now fully guarentees it.  Not 100% though

The surgery isn't expected to cost him any time.  Minor surgery

Blake Bortles' wrist will be fine by 2018, he'll be a Jag

Contact ReporterSports Medical Analyst

Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles reportedly had surgery on his throwing wrist for an issue that has been bothering him since the end of the 2016 season.

There is no video to analyze, but it obviously was not a big enough concern to do something the previous offseason.

Bortles reportedly received injections to quiet down symptoms during the ’17 season.

Reports said a slight tear was repaired.

The most likely scenario is a wrist cartilage issue, specifically the triangular fibrocarilage complex (TFCC), which is like a small meniscus or cartilage pad on the ulnar (pinky) side of his wrist.

That would fit the profile of being able to play and of injections helping.

Since it lingered, a simple arthroscopic surgery to trim the tear is indicated. If that is the case, the expected recovery is measured in weeks, and Bortles should be available for the offseason program.

The possible hiccup is in the rare instance the TFCC were sewn. That might mean a 3-4 month recovery process.

Regardless, Bortles will be fine in plenty of time for training camp.

The biggest ramification of the surgery is is that virtually guarantees (if it weren’t already the case) that Bortles will be with the Jaguars in 2018. He has a $19 million guaranteed payment if he is on the roster in mid-March, and he cannot be cut due to injury before that.

Lol, the article you posted suggests that it's essentially guaranteed.
