It doesn’t stop! Watson’s marketing agent posts this on his story & it cannot be any clearer

Meh.

Why do I feel that we are just being used to gin up interest from other teams where he would actually prefer to land or just to get Houston to change whatever it is that he feels needs to be changed so that he can be happy.

In the porn industry that would make us perennial fluffers.

great post.

the NETS already had a really good team that could have made the Finals. i could see why Harden wanted to go there.

every time Lebron picks a new team they already have a really good team. i can see why he wants to go there.

why in the hell would Watson want to come to a 2-14 team with so many holes.

I mean... my main guess would be $$$, from being the big star in NY, and everything that brings.

We saw with OBJ, seen with Matt Harvey etc... that you get more publicity when you're in NY.

I guess, he may also see anywhere but Houston as progress, or may actually want to be reunited with pals, and knows Jets have $70m in cap.

Watson and his agent aren’t stupid.  They can make way more money playing in NYC than some podunk market

There are 3 parts that need to fall into place to make this happen:

  1. Houston needs to decide to trade Watson.
  2. The Jets need to be on the list of teams that Watson would accept a trade to.
  3. Joe Douglas needs to put together an offer that beats what Houston can get from any of the other teams on Watson's list.

At this point, I have the least confidence in #3.  The Dolphins can definitely put together a package that would rival ours (Sam and Tua are in the same ballpark, as are the Jets' #2 pick and the Dolphins' #3, and both have 2 first-round picks this year).  And, if the Texans are open to starting with a free agent stopgap QB while they rebuild (like Jacoby Brissett or Jameis Winston), any team on Watson's list can put together an insane package if they want him badly enough (i.e. their next 3 first, second, and third round picks).

But even if the Texans prefer options that only the Jets can provide, as has been suggested, (Darnold and/or their choice of Fields/Wilson), there is no real evidence that Joe Douglas has the desire to put together a large enough package to satisfy Houston's overall demands.  He seems to have more of a "team builder" philosophy than an "all eggs in one big basket" one.

I'm not saying that this won't happen.  There are certainly enough "hints" that parts 1 and 2 may be falling into place.  But there are no real indications that #3 is imminent, and that's a big part of the equation also.

Your argument is rational, the trade is not imminent but Watson's team are  indicating New York, it's obvious that Watson would amend his no trade to include New York. Yes Miami is a more realistic option but Deshaun seems to be signaling NY.

Even  Richard Sherman's twitter advice might be a plant, an 'ask' from Watson's crew to get Jets fans clamoring.  The fans are being whipped up in a frenzy to put pressure on the Jets to act.

Once the fan base is excited, the pressure mounts on the Johnson's to interfere in the front office process.

PR seems to be the tail that wags the Jets dog for a long time.  For example I think Douglas still believed in Gase he knew the roster was 70% of the reason the Jets sucked so miserably in 2020, but he had to serve the unlikeable Gase's head on a platter to the fans because they wanted blood and Gase was the perfect fall guy for the poorly performing roster.

Yes on your No.3 part, Douglas.  Ultimately it's his decision with some assist from Saleh. Is he willing to give up a good part of an unknown future for the now of Deshaun? We will find out in the next week or two.

listening to Bart and Hahn, and Hahn made a good point.

remember when everyone said Kevin Durant was 95% coming to the Knicks? that's what this feels like, he said.

good point.

Durant I knew the entire time was never coming here.  He’s too mentally weak to handle NY

Watson is a mentally tough guy he can handle NY no problem

The johnsons are terrible, but they are no Dolan.

Watson is also very involved with the BLM movement and regardless of opinions on Christopher, he has spoke up quite a bit in favor of that movement with the players. I don’t think that should be taken lightly.

it’s obviously a far different stance than McNair has when it come to their respective teams.
