The first memory of Jack Bendix is that of a cramped and filthy alleyway, the stink of human waste, and the cold, rotting corpse of a woman. He can't recall if it was his mother, and he feels no sorrow over her loss, but he remembers clinging to that woman. He was a young boy -- at what age he's never exactly known -- but, strangely, he doesn't remember feeling fright or sadness. What he does remember, though, and quite vividly, is the hunger... the absolute and terrible hunger. He was, quite literally, starving to death. How long he remained with the woman, he does not know. No one came to rescue the poor, hungry boy who huddled with the dead woman. It's not that no one noticed him, it's just that no one cared. To this day Jack can still picture the indifferent and callous faces that passed by, looking upon the pitiful sight without a word. At some point, out of nowhere a smell rises out from the putrescence and hits young Jack. The smell of food. Hidden within the intricate folds of her dress and carefully wrapped in cloth, Jack found a piece of bread and he wasted no time in scarfing down every last morsel. It was moldy, stale, but ever so satisfying. It was from that point on that he vowed to never be that hungry again.

Jack shakes his head, and brings himself back to the present from the distant reverie. He likes to remind himself every now and then, but now is not the time. It was a late night as he strolled through the quiet, empty streets of Drakken Cove, the only audible sound being the soft patter and crunch of his rapid footsteps. He'd rather not be out this late, even with the late Cedrick Benton six feet under -- or, several dozen yards down somewhere in the bay, to be more precise -- but some matters of business needed to be attended to. As one of the de facto "leaders" of Drakken Cove -- or so he tells everyone when his boss isn't around -- Jack took the initiative of protecting the town the best way he knew how. There was a particular resident that he had his eyes on, and so decided to keep that person under close guard tonight -- despite that person's protests. Kidnapping is such an ugly word, let's just call it safeguarding, Jack recalls telling the angry soul. Jack chuckles aloud to himself, while wiping away some still fresh blood from a wound on his cheek, sustained during the encounter. Nevertheless, the man will be safe tonight, or Drakken Cove will be safe from him, which ever way you choose to see it. And, with that out of the way, Jack is free to attend to other matters of business.

Despite being the leader of the most influential gang in town, Jack was not exactly who one would call "the man in charge", for even he had someone to answer to. And, while this person was safe and comfy at home tonight, Jack was roaming the streets, running errands that are apparently too crucial to wait. Jack doesn't know whether to be flattered that he's the only one entrusted enough to carry them out, or offended that he's really that expendable.

Jack's relationship with his boss is quite complicated. On the one hand, there is a very real and honest respect and gratitude for the old man. There's no doubt he's given Jack a lot over the years, and has amplified Jack's own reach and influence immeasurably. On the other hand, there is a deep and growing resentment for the man who Jack knows, in his absence, talks of him as nothing more than the "little ruffian he plucked from the streets". Jack had built his gang from the ground up, gathering together fellow hungry and tired youth lost to the mad streets of a cruel metropolis. At first they just kept themselves fed, but as their talents grew, so did Jack's hunger, and ever since he was sixteen years old, Jack has sat at the head of just about every table he's been at... except for one.

Maybe one day, he thinks to himself, with a sly smile.

Jack lets his weary mind wander off again, this time in a reverie of future glory, luxury and power. As he does, his guard drops briefly, but just long enough for an opportunistic shadow to creep in unnoticed.

Just at the part in his fantasy where he moves into his new, sprawling manor with his young and busty wife, Jack is suddenly ripped back into the present. He whips around just in time to catch a wrist, stopping a blade mere inches from his face.

A shocked Jack lets out a gasp then chuckles, seeing just how close he came to death.

"Nice try, but now you're d--"

Jack's last words are stopped short, stolen from his very throat as the second knife plunges in. All Jack can muster is a weak and befuddled grunt, as if his very words were leaking out of his body from the deep wound in his side. In his mind he sees the image of that sprawling manor crumble, and the pretty, youthful face of his future bride fade and disappear. He lets go of the wrist and drops to his knees before falling flat on his face, still gasping, shocked at his unfortunate fate. Dirt and debris begin to fill his eyes and nose, as he's dragged face-down between a row of abandoned houses. The alleyway is cramped and filthy, and Jack can smell the unmistakable stench of human waste. He even swears he can smell the beginning stench of a corpse. Jack is flipped over onto his back, but all he can see is darkness. As the knife rips open his shirt, the last thing Jack thinks is what he wouldn't give to see a few callous faces walk by that alleyway.

The next morning they find him there, just like all the others. His crime carved across his chest...

"Pawn".

Alright, legit thought this was going to be a blood bath game and me caught in between like 2 or 3 faction like a few games ago where I was just a sitting duck, so I mentally checked out but I'm alive and it's not as messy as I thought...I'll go catch up.

JC opening up with a vote on me though is hysterical and disgusting.  Hammered town yesterday and then opens the day with a lazy vote. It would be funny to go back and reread and be like, oh hey look, should have killed JC when I said.

I've got a lot so this could take a while.

I was, but he wasnt the only one trying to get people with character reveals. Crusher did it too at some point with grernseed.

I was the only one to challenge it. Basically this is one of those games where people stupidly jump at everything i do instead of try to catch scum, then blame me as a “distraction” when it’s their laziness that drives them to ignore all the reactions.
