CrazyCarl40
when he is signed somewhere else, I will believe it Exactly. And it isn't like not signing him would be the end of the world either. The Sox will contend for the AL East with or without Tex.

Bergen Jet
Tex is severly overrated He is a very good player who I would love to see in pinstripes. He is going to get about 5 million (or more) a year than he probably deserves.
Bob
Tex is severly overrated He's somewhat overrated. If he did not fill a gaping hole for the Yanks, I would not care about him at all.. There's a big hole at first base, though.

I wonder if the Nats and/or Angels went to 10 years? Henry said the Sox would not go there.

PFSIKH
FWIW http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/ Yankees, Angels GMs react to Sox message on Teixeira In our roundup of all things Teixeira this morning, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and Angels GM Tony Reagins reacted to Red Sox owner John Henry's announcement last night that his club would not be a factor in the pursuit of free agent Mark Teixeira: According to George King in the New York Post today, the Yankees are not one of the teams that outbid the Red Sox for Teixeira's services. The Red Sox say they got outbid for free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira. Though Boston didn't talk about which teams offered more for the switch-hitting Teixeira, it wasn't the Yankees. "Not us," Cashman told The Post late last night. In today's Los Angeles Times, Mike DiGiovanna has the Angels' Reagins responding to Henry's late-night e-mail: Reagins had not been informed of any Teixeira decision by early Thursday evening, and he refused to concede anything to the Red Sox. "It just means he's pursuing his options and will make a decision at some point," Reagins said. "Until that happens, we're still in the game. . . . We made a substantial offer, and they have an opportunity to accept." Is the Angels' bid a final offer? "I would say it's a fair offer," Reagins said. Informed of Henry's e-mail later Thursday evening, Reagins called it "an interesting turn of events. . . . Beyond that, I have no knowledge of it, so it wouldn't be fair to comment about it." According to DiGiovanna's report, the Red Sox offer for Teixeira exceeds what the Angels have presented: The Red Sox were believed to have offered Teixeira an eight-year deal in the $175-million range, and a source who is familiar with negotiations but is not authorized to speak about them on the record said it was "significantly" better than the Angels' offer. In the Herald's Red Sox blog early this morning, Michael Silverman has an e-mail from agent Scott Boras on Teixeira's next steps:

Thai Jet
The Angels were the front runners. The 'unamed' GM said the Sox were favorites. Exactly. The Boston Red Sox were a late entry into the sweepstakes. I still can't see him wanting to go to the Nats at all. Borass is just using the Nats to get the Angels to increase the pot.
