Just to give you sense what's going on; these guys at the top are a wreck. You cannot do that to any back and think he'll just keep going. But when your coach is a stubborn tool... And you know Hermie is gonna ride him like the Pony Express. Johndon is going to be as sore as a back can over the next month. And unlike Mangini, he cannot adjust on the fly. The Broncos are collapsing. The Bengals are done. This season will come down to the last week of the season. If the Jets win against the Raiders, they will be at least a wildcard. KC at the Jags on that day will be a play-in for the other wildcard. And Rehbok Suit Guy will know to key on Johnson, if he is healthy enough to play. Bottom line-the Jets are going to the playoffs, and we'll be doing it a the expense of COach Jerk Chicken. And we'll do it because Larry Johnson cannot physically hope to keep this pace up. Herm Edwards seems to have no respect for the o-line, he completely ignored it during his tenure here. It will be a shame if he cuts LJ's career short. The thing is, Herm doesn't care. He's already on record stating that he "lost track" of how many carries LJ has had in games, and that LJ wants the ball so he's just giving him what he wants. I also agree that it will come down to the jets having to beat oak at the meadowlands in the final game of the season for the jets to make it to the playoffs. A back who takes a record number of hits isn't going to be so spry and fresh at the end of the season, which is the point of the thread. Bizarre thing-KC has Michael Bennett, who had a nice gainer Thursday night, whereupon Hermie stapled him to the bench.Jets tried to get Bennett, and gotta figure he would've been happier here than holding Johnson's water bottle. Bennett ended T'giving with 2 carries for 59 yards. Guy has all of 25 carries for the season, which sounds kinda familiar. Curtis Martin 1995: 368 carries 1996: 316 carries/3.6 ypc 1998: 369 carries/3.5 ypc 1999: 367 carries/4.0 ypc (the league average - and this was one of the better follow-up's - see below) 2000: 316 carries/3.8 ypc 2004: 371 carries 2005: 220 carries/3.3 ypc/injured It’s pretty hard to find a RB who had a decidedly above-average season after a season like that. But once you reach around 400 carries, look at what happens to a lot of these guys: Jamal Anderson 1998: 410 carries 1999: 19 carries/injured – career over James Wilder 1984: 407 carries 1985: 365 carries/3.6 ypc never carried 200x in a season again – career as a full-time starter over after 2 seasons Eric Dickerson: 1986: 404 carries 1987: 293 carries in 12 games (strike season) = the exception & who knows what would’ve happened with 4 more games Eddie George 2000: 403 carries 2001: 315 carries/3.0 ypc – career of being decent over Gerald Riggs 1985: 397 carries 1986: 3.9 ypc – 1 more year in the ’87 strike season then he was finished as a starter Terrell Davis 1998: 392 carries 1999: injured in game 4 - career over Ricky Williams: 2002: 383 carries 2003: 392 carries/3.5 ypc 2004: out of football - allegedly part of the reason for de ganja was for the pain Barry Foster: 1992: 390 carries 1993: 177 carries; out of football at age 26 Jamal Lewis 2003: 387 carries 2004: injured & never the same again Edgerrin James 2000: 387 carries 2001: injured Marcus Allen 1985: 380 carries (4.6 ypc) 1986: 3.6 ypc George Rogers 1981: 378 carries in 15 games 1982: injured Earl Campbell: 1980: 373 carries (5.2 ypc) 1981: 3.8 ypc There are exceptions like Emmitt Smith & Walter Payton & Dickerson like I mentioned. Your D is playing better, but teams still run on you. Take away the last 2 Houston "drives", when it was garbage time, and it was a lot closer to a fair split, run vs. pass. He did a so-so job in one of his seasons after 368 carries or whatever, or it was certainly favorable compared to people who blew out their knees. If you take that to be a compliment, then beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't see 4.0ypc - the NFL average every single season - as anything other than mediocre (nor his lowly 6.9 ypr).
