You have to spend 89% of the cap space over a rolling period of 4 years. So, unless he wants the interest on that money (I doubt that was a motivation), Idzik's cheapskate ways are even more mystifying than you might think.

 

This stuff about re-signing Wilkerson and Kerley is just silly. For one thing, Kerley is a complimentary player at best. I doubt that he would even fetch $4m/year on the market. And I don't think they even need to re-sign Wilkerson this off-season in order to keep him.

 

We have no more young talent that needs to be re-signed soon than the average team has. It's no reason to sit on more than $20M. Plus it's not as if we don't have veterans that will be coming off the books in the near future, either.
