Jets owner Woody Johnson confirmed as U.K. Ambassador | NJ.com

Now it's official

Jets owner Woody Johnson has officially been confirmed as the United States' U.K. Ambassador, per multiple reports. According to the Associated Press, the votes came as the Senate cleared the deck of dozens of nominees as it recessed for August.

Christopher Wold, Johnson's brother, will assume day-to-day control of the Jets. The two attended the NFL owners meetings together in March. Christopher, in the past, did not attend them.

"The New York Jets have been an integral part of our family since 2000, but this is a unique opportunity for Woody," Christopher said. "His patriotism and commitment to our country have always been a passion of his.

"Over the years, we have learned that ownership of the New York Jets is a special responsibility. Personally, if Woody is nominated and confirmed, I would be honored to oversee the organization, continuing to build a team on and off the field that our fans are proud of and deserve."

Johnson's been the position's rumored front-runner dating all the way back to December. Trump himself said he'd appoint Johnson to the role on Jan. 19, but things weren't finalized until Thursday.

Johnson has long been a prominent Republican fundraiser. After initially supporting Jeb Bush's campaign during the primary, Johnson shifted his support to Trump when he secured the nomination. (Johnson initially was the national finance chairman for Bush's failed campaign).

Johnson served as vice chairman of Trump's victory committee. Johnson also hosted high-dollar fundraisers for Trump's campaign. Plus, Johnson is on Trump's inaugural committee. Incoming presidents typically reward big-money supporters with ambassador posts like this.

Johnson bought the Jets in 2000, and has been a relatively involved owner since. Under his ownership, the Jets haven't experienced much success, though. They've made the playoffs six times in 17 years under Johnson. They have a record of 132-140 in the regular season (136-146 overall) in his time as owner.

The Jets are currently in a six-year playoff drought -- their longest since 1992-1997. Their record over the past six seasons is 41-55.

Congrats to Woody on the confirmation. I hope he does a good job, the world needs some good jobs these days.

There are plenty of good jobs out there in the world, just not enough qualified or willing workers to FILL those jobs adequately.

Agree to diisagree companies and corporations don't want to pay people deserving wages.

That is a VERY SUBJECTIVE statement and it's relative to the work being done. Automation has practically made the non-skilled working man irrelevant and payroll taxes and employee insurance rates are the real root and cause for not wanting to hire people. Just one capitalist's opinion. :D

Example: In a very long line at Walmart manager says oh  I'm sorry for the delays but no one wants to work these days....another customer replies no Walmart doesn't want to pay them enough to work these days.

Well, Wal-Mart just doesn't pay better than Welfare....lol. Why get up and work when you can be compensated for not getting up to work.....

Its hard for businesses to compete with the entity that prints the money and then throws it out for free with no expectation of generating a return or benefit...

Hopefully this is our George Steinbrenner banishment moment.

Good thought, but we'd need Stick Michael and Buck Showalter here to take advantage of the idiot owner being exiled. Instead, we've just got more idiots.
