An undrafted free agent got open in a zone defense with no underneath help & 4 defenders in the area with not of them within 5 yards of the WR. That play said more about how bad the Giants defense is than it said about how good Baker Mayfield will be. I did love the way he moved around the pocket though, keeps his eyes downfield & his quick release. The WR was open given that the Giants didn't expect that Baker would be able to withstand the pressure for that long. The only reason why that WR even has the opportunity to make a wide open catch is because Baker avoided pressure within the pocket by avoiding the rush from a guy who had an opportunity to make a play. 3rd and 18 in the NFL is still 3rd and 18...especially when you have to also deal with the pass rush. Im not going to sit here and act like the WR was running free and Baker was just sitting back all day waiting for a WR to get open. Baker's feet kept that play alive before he even threw the ball. But to prove a point, how about this play? 3rd and 7, Baker flushed out of the pocket and has to make a pin point pass while on the run to a WR who isnt wide open with no DB's around him, and the pass is 35 yards all air...not 21 yards like the previous pass, and is throwing to a guy who would be a 4th or 5th WR on the depth chart. Threw a pick on his first throw -- although it was more on the WR, off his hands. Both Lynch e a hit hugot Keenum look lousy. 5 possessions. 4 three and outs and a pick. Can't tell if Chad Kelly is really good or if the Viking defenders tonight are a collection of guys more likely to be bouncing or waste management professionals before the end of August.
