Comp Pick comparisons - Jets near the bottom

It's no surprise that good teams have players that other teams want to sign, and also have good players sitting behind them so they can afford to let them go. The whole comp pick system should be abandoned. It just helps the rich stay richer.

Weird that the Patriots are # 3 on this list (and # 1 in total draft value from comp picks).  Haven't we been told forever that Macc is good because the Patriots draft bad and only win because of Brady?

Also, the Broncos are in the top 5 in both metrics.  I thought Elway sucked?  That's what I've been told here repeatedly, after all.

There's already a salary cap to try to maintain parity.  Now you want to give bad teams even more of a leg up?  I disagree.  There should be a reward in place for drafting well, and incentive to let other teams overpay your guys.

We just need a GM in place who drafts well, knows how to game the system and collect comp picks.  Especially now that those comp picks can be traded.

You get a lot of comp picks by a concerted effort to get comp picks. There is a formula that's pretty well figured out.

Belichick signs players with this in mind. He lets their contracts expire and he signs cut players over FAs.

He's no better at drafting than average so he likes to trade down. Loves to defer for more value in following years, and he loves comps. Basically he wants more 2nd-4th round picks. If 1st round picks hit 60% of the time and 3rd round hits 20% then 3 3rds are equal to one 1st at a much better price. If you have 4 3rds every year you're going to do pretty well. Then you let those guys go as FAs and you're gaming the comp pick system.

Everyone knows you can't keep championship teams together long. Everyone likes to overpay role players from a champ. There's a reason ex Pats never work out long term.

It takes initial success to start this process then it takes internal fortitude. These message board warriors are going to flip out every time their favorite player is let go and every time a big name draft pick is turned into future capitol.

So little Bill is patient. He doesn't take his opportunity to load up and take one more shot. He lets talent go early and every year he has more picks than other teams.

Everyone that wants to pick at 3 and forgo extra picks and future picks is basically against sustained success.
