Popular Post Apache 51
Jets legend Mark Gastineau is winning colon cancer battle Updated 10:25 AM; Today 10:05 AM By Chris Ryan | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com Jets legend Mark Gastineau reached a major milestone in battle with colon cancer The former defensive end announced on Facebook that he completed his final chemotherapy and radiation treatments for the disease. “WOW! My Chemo and now Radiation is all finished! Praise God,” Gastineau wrote in his update. "I celebrated with my terrific crew at the hospital, I rang the Bell, I gave my wife a huge hug and kiss for all her support, and I did the victory dance outside. “I wanted to share each step because you have all been so amazing supporting me! Thanks from both of us from the bottom of our hearts.” Gastineau has been keeping fans updated about his treatments via Facebook since he was diagnosed with stage-three colon cancer six months ago. Gastineau and his wife, Jo Ann, also launched a GoFundMe page, where he said he was blindsided by the diagnosis. Gastineau finished with 74 sacks in 10 seasons with the Jets, though sacks weren’t an official statistic until 1982, when he played in his fourth season. He finished with 19 sacks in 1983 and 22 in 1984. He was the AFC Defensive Player of the Year in 1984, and his 22 sacks stood as an NFL single-season record until Michael Strahan of the Giants broke it 17 years later. Prior to going for his final treatment, Gastineau also said he was able to return to doing some work outs. “I actually went to the tennis courts today to begin to work out again,” he said in a previous Facebook update. “Can you believe this crazy ride we are on together? I sure appreciate you all and am looking forward to sharing many victories in the future! Especially with our Jets! 8 1
