Some takeaways from today’s #Jets training camp practice …

- Dalvin Cook visited the Jets yesterday. He left without a contract. Saleh called it a “good” visit, but Jets aren’t “pushing” or “pressing” the issue. Basically, there’s no timeline for a signing. Cook needs to do what’s best for his family. The back’s desire to play for the Dolphins is pretty well known. It’s also important to know the Jets don’t need Cook. He’d be a welcome addition, but it’s a case of luxury, not necessity. Any contract offer from Joe Douglas will reflect that.

- It was not a good day for the offense. It started fine enough. Aaron Rodgers was 4 of 6 through the first two drills. That’s when things went off the rails. He was 4 of 11 the rest of the day with an interception (drive-the-field-drill) and touchdown (final play of practice in red zone). Mamma said there would be days like this. This was also the Jets longest practice of the summer. It finished around 12:35.

- Allen Lazard needs to work some on his hands. He’s dropped his fair share throughout these first two weeks of practice, including another on Monday. His relationship with Rodgers will keep him on the field. Just makes you wonder what Corey Davis is thinking.

- One player Rodgers seems to be connecting more with in recent days: Mecole Hardman. There was a long completion on a hot route on Sunday, then another deep ball on Monday. Remember: Hardman didn’t practice in OTAs and minicamp, so he was behind in the chemistry department. Now it looks like he and Rodgers are catching up.

- An underrated wideout to keep an eye on: Malik Taylor. He’s getting a lot of looks with Garrett Wilson (ankle) and Davis (illness) on sideline. He hasn’t made many plays, but he’s getting reps, which means the coaches trust him.

- Randall Cobb returned to practice in team drills for the first time. He and Rodgers connected early on a nice little play where he sat down in the zone.

- The Jets changed up their center battle on Monday for the first time. Connor McGovern took a back seat to Wes Schweitzer. It didn’t go great for Wes, who botched two shotgun snaps, which led to busted plays. The job is likely McGovern’s. Saleh did not make it seem like rookie Joe Tippmann is a legitimate option to start this year.
