If is not the recipe for NOT making the playoffs, nothing is:

  • CJ Mosley-$21.5mm (worst contract in NFL history)
  • Duane Brown-$11.3mm (did he play a snap?)
  • Laken Tomlinson-$10.8 (one of the worst contracts in NFL history-up there with Trumaine Johnson)
  • Zach Wilson-$9.6mm (he can be traded for a cap zero next season, so long as the other team assumes his salary)
  • AR8-$8.9mm (wait until this hits)

Whose job is cap management?

Oh yeah, JD.   Wait till people see the 30, 40, 50 million dollar cap hits in the future years for players not even on the team.  All of this to assemble the worse winning % in the league since he took over.

The following are the 2024 cap hits for players who are either not under contract or likely to be gone:

  • Duane Brown-$4.7mm
  • Whitehead-$3.3mm
  • Lawson-$6.3mm (he could have been cut this season and wiped clean in 2023 and 2024)
  • Zach Wilson-$5.7mm
  • Quinton Jefferson-$1.5mm

At the beginning of 2024, the Jets will still have to account for $66mm of cap hit for AR8 as well.  That bill will eventually come due.

I think it's safe to say we have that recipe down pat.

Joe Douglas has paid more money to NFL Retirees than the Players' Union. Ryan Kalil, Duane Brown, and Dalvin Cook collectively stole $25 million/year as they cruised their way toward "active" retirement.

$13 million/year on Tomlinson was an absolute bust. $11 million/year on Lazard was a travesty. And $4 million on Mecole Hardman was bad.

By my math, $40-50 million a year or 20-25% of cap space has been wasted by Joe Douglas' awful signings.

Yet next year at 1 second past the start of free agency the board will be in meltdown because we haven't made a bunch of signings already. ;-)

This is how you build a winner with sustained success. It’s totally organic.

I know people like to hate on CJ Mosley but his is nowhere near the worst contract in NFL history, not even close….we might have doled put half a dozen legit contenders for that accolade down the years but Mosley is not one of them. I hope he’s back next year

This fanbase loves to rag on it’s LB’s only to revise history when they become stars elsewhere (Farrior, Vilma, Demario Davis etc etc)

No you’re wrong about his contract being the worstest in history.  Out of the hundreds of thousands of NFL contracts given out in the history of the league,  this current team has 2 of the worst EVER WRITTEN.

It doesn’t matter that CJ contract wasn’t given out by him, he’s SO BAD at his job that he should have to take credit for it.

Plus he hides under his desk all season while ALL THE OTHER GMs are conducting multiple press conferences and explaining their logic on all their transactions….oh wait…
