Should the Jets consider moving Vilma?

Just a thought. Maybe with his speed and instincts he'd be able to make more plays when he's not getting hit by an OG or OC on every play. Vilma to OLB and Hobson to ILB? Like I said..just a thought. Im tired of this defense get hammered and Vilma unable to make big plays.

He's not getting hit by a OG or OC on every play. I've seen him get pasted by a FB on at least a few plays. I don't have anything against moving him, but I don't think he's any great shakes in coverage. Personally, I'd rather start tailoring the D to the guys we're going to keep. If not it's never going to get any better.

Looks like your college education is really paying off when it comes to reading comprehension.

I can't believe they selected Tom Berringer to play Bear Bryant for that film on texas a&m...were you disturbed by that?

Or did you just roll with it beacuse he was jake taylor in major leauge?

I'm in enough trouble here, or I would tell you.

I'm just trying to keep BZ off my case.

Because of all the Sensitivity I went to another board and figured it out. Not sure what the big deal was but anyway. You leave Vilma were he is at and let him learn the system I think he is overrated anyway.

wow... that is most ridiculous notion I have ever heard.... Playing Vilma outside? He will be a laughingstock... That is why Jets have Barton inside.

3-4 OLB requires to be a big and athleticism to perform properly. 3-4 ILB requires to have good instricts, position to position run stopping and tackling skill, and Size is not mattered but the bigger, the better.

Unfortunately, Hobson is not that athletic.

Vilma at OLB? ha... he does not have all tools to be one. the combination of weak coverage skill and poor pass rushing is a bad news.

It actually refers to raccoons. The expression "in a coon's age" dates to the early 1800s, and to the folk belief that raccoons are long-lived. My pal Colibri of the Straight Dope Science Advisory Board says, "References differ, but a wild individual raccoon might live up to 5 to 7 years (average survival being much lower, though, probably 2-3 years), and in captivity they can live up to 14-17 years. So their lifespan is comparable to that of a dog."

In the early 1800s, it's doubtful if anyone knew how long raccoons actually lived, and two to three years in the wild is not really very long. But raccoon fur is hardy and reasonably durable, which might have given rise to the belief of longevity.

Many slang terms use the term "coon" to mean raccoon. Their black eye-mask and nocturnal habits suggest anthropomorphic parallels, so we get the term "coon" meaning to steal or pilfer, for instance. The word also was used in the 1830s to mean a rustic, a country-bumpkin. In 1840, the coon was the figurehead of the Whig Party. (Where are the Whigs now when we need them?)

Unfortunately, many of those negative stereotypes were applied to black people, hence the derogatory term "coon," first used in the 1850s but more commonly heard after 1890. Some etymologists speculate that the term was used because of the raccoon's dark coloring rather than its real or imagined behavior. Whatever the case, the usage is highly offensive today

Vilma IMO should be on the outside where can utilize his speed and his coverage ability better and not have to take on so many blockers.

Faba, no way would that work. Look at your prototypical 3-4 OLB, they're the size of 4-3 DEs. Vilma would get eaten alive by those offensive tackles, quite possibly literally.

I am assuming the use of a 4-3 defense in my scenerio. My idea is let him be a rover type player to maximize his speed.

Agreed

3-4 OLB's are usually converted 4-3 DE's. They usually weigh in the 255-270 range.

Vilma is 230 soaking wet.

If everyone thinks he's having a hard time shedding 290 pound OG's then I would love to hear their thoughts on how he's going to shed 320 pound OT's.

maybe the thinking since he is merely occupying 290lbs, he could move over & occupy 30 more lbs. with the same results? more bang per lb ;)

Vilma has no place in the 3-4, never will. And he doesnt have a big enuff frame to add the needed muscle and still be a quick backer.

Down the line, sooner or later, it will be either switch back to the 4-3, or trade Vilma. I prefer keeping our 24 yr old probowl MLB and switching back to the 4-3, but maybe I am stupid like that.

Mangini won't switch to a base 4-3 and he shouldn't.

He's seen nothing but success in the 3-4 system. We aren't making a Super Bowl run this year. Let the guys get settled in and let's add some more horses to the stable this offseason.

I would honestly trade Vilma but only if he gets us a late 1st/early 2nd round pick.
