To be fair, this is actually pretty mild compared to what he's said about Munson in the past. I've seen them, and they're ****ed up. But I guess I'm just a little sensitive about Munson. I was a catcher and I hated him for being a Yankee but I copied him more than any other catcher. The sidearm off balance release, his low setup and how he would rag on his pitcher or anyone else when he needed to. He was always covered in dirt spitting tobacco and being in Fn charge of his team. Forget captain, he was the boss and he was everything to that group because he was the one that could deal with Billy. Casey said he never played an important game without his man, Yogi who for me is a top 10 all time player, and Munson was the same for Martin. The Yankees were my first team. There were no Mets yet and the Dodgers & Giants had already left NY. As a kid back then, went to a "clinic"/PR event the Yankees held at Clove Lake Park on Staten Island. Two rookies showed up and put on a display for about 30-50 fans who attended. Imagine this now? One of the rookies (can't recall who the other player was) was Munson. He put on a show throwing with his trademark sidearm delivery you mention, demonstrated hitting techniques, and a bunch of other stuff. We were all saying "who the hell is this guy, he's unbelievable"? Just already had the presence and talent which would follow Thurman until his tragic death. Wow, cool that there was another Yankee fan with that jersey even if he wasn't a pal. Munson and Fisk jerseys together adds another fantastic element to the story.
