i know he was hurt last year but he did play well before that

*oh **** wrong forum*

I asked somebody involved in the process if RB Derrick Ward was going to re-sign with the Giants.

"Not looking like it," the person replied via e-mail.

Again, these things can change on the day before free agency, but I'd say it's at least a sure thing Ward will test the market and won't re-sign with the Giants today. After that, who knows? But it doesn't look likely at this point that he'll be back in blue.

After going 0-3 on the first day of free agency, it looks like the Giants will be able to survive Day 2 without taking another loss. However, it’s only a matter of time before their record becomes 0-4.

Running back Derrick Ward has gotten a “lot of interest” in the first two days of free agency, according to his agent, Peter Schaffer. He did not say which teams he was talking to, though he did say he was already working on setting up visits.

Ward was offered a short-term contract by the Giants, but preferred to look elsewhere to see if he could find a little more security and, perhaps, a clearer path to some playing time.

So Derrick Ward has replaced Danny Ware in Jetsrule's affections.

Unrequited, obsessive love is so fleeting.

well danny ware is not a free agent he will be competing for a job for the giants in camp

derrick ward got stolen from us here is a chance to get him back

we clearly need another RB-we never replaced Cedric Houston last year when he retired

Didnt you hear SoFla? As the "brilliant" Jay Mariotti said, the Jets should have grabbed Turner instead of Jenkins and Faneca. Besides, who needs lineman? :P

  • 2 weeks later...

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Giants re-signed running back Derrick Ward on Friday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the New York Daily News reported that it was for one year at $1.1 million with incentives that could be worth another $1 million.

"We are glad to have Derrick back in our stable of running backs, which will create some real competition at that position," said Giants general manager Jerry Reese. "He brings a lot to the table as a runner, receiver, kick returner and cover specialist."

Ward rushed for 602 yards and three touchdowns and added 179 receiving yards and a score last season. He saw significant playing time after starter Brandon Jacobs suffered injuries to his knee in September and hamstring in November.

However, Ward's season was ended early when he suffered a broken left leg in the fourth quarter against the Chicago Bears on December 2.

He was placed on injured reserve and missed the remainder of the regular season along with the Giants' four-game postseason title run.

"It was hard sitting out," Ward said. "It's been my dream since I was a little kid to play in the Super Bowl. I wasn't able to play in it because of my injury, but I felt I helped the team enough to get us there. It was a win-win situation for me."
