Here is the latest The Yankees have fallen to the back of the line by telling the Indians that they would continue to talk but Phil hughes is off limits .

Now it seems that the Dodgers are the front runner with a package of Kemp / Broxton / and 2 to three top prospects Lindsey / Paul / Slults / Mattingly / Jansen / Santana.

The Red Sox are willing to include Lester / and a host of 3 to 4 prospects

Thurston / Lowrie / Brown / Pauley / Zink / Pinckney / Bowden.

The Mets deal could work with Jose Reyes being the key piece with a host of prospects from the grouping of Argenis Reyes / Anderson Hernandez /Brian Stokes / Nick Evans / Dan Murphy / Ambiorix Concepcion / Josh Thole / Greg Vilez / Casey Craig .

The Sox are not and should not be interested in him. No need whatsoever. If they wouldn't part with Lester for Santana, why would they for someone who isn't as good? Also, Bowden and Lowrie are not going anywhere.

If your source isn't named deepthroat, he ought to think about the name switch.

The Red Sox need bullpen help. And now.

Eh. Timlin could be replaced, but I don't see other real pressing issues in the pen. Have to remember if and when all of our starters are healthy, that means someone like Buchholz or Masterson might go to the pen to help out. I think most of our issues will be solved by health and be done internally.

As someone noted a while back, the CC stands for Captain Cheeseburger. Last he deigned to get on a scale, Sabbathia was 320 lbs. Trading for an aging guy so bereft of conditioning is stupidity. Heck, just sign Wells. But better thane ither, let's have more auditions of minor leaguers.

I suspect they've been interested about ever since Wang went down. They're just trying to ante-up the price. The Yankees are 100% right not including Hughes in talks if this report is true. I wouldn't want to trade any top prospects for a guy who's going to be a free agent and continues to battle weight problems...

Well the problem is they would most likely have to give up a package like they did to get him in the first place.

And anybody that thinks you will even touch Haren or Cain for less than 4 or 5 TOP TOP prospects is a moron.

why are the D-backs thinking fo trading Dan Haren???

No one out here who is proposing rumors about CC has any clue how Cashman operates. He does not panic and give in the inflated deals.

Proof, you ask?

Let's go back to 2006. Matsui and Sheffield get hurt within a 3 week period in May 2006. The Yankees call up Melky from the Minors, and dust off Bernie to play regularly in the OF. No panic trades for a very available Abreu at the time. Cashman bides his time and waits. Finally, come July 30th, a deal is struck for 4 Minor Leaguers, none whom are considered top flight prospects at the time, and only 1 (Matt Smith) who was above AA at the time. And the Yankees get Cory Lidle thrown in!! Lidle pitches OK the remainder of the season, and beats Boston in the final game of a series in August that basically killed the Bosox chances of making the WC.

And Abreu hits like some star, and helps lead the Yankees to the Playoffs, again.

That's how Cashman operates. If CC comes, it will be for Brian's price, or he won't come here.

I agree it will come at his price, but these are two pretty different situations. The Phillies desperately wanted to get rid of Abreu and next year's salary.
