Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill have not yet signed their tenders and are planning on sitting out until Week 10 until they either receive new deals or are traded.

A.J. Smith says the team is preparing for 2010 without them.

I heard this explained on the NFLN. If you don't have a contract and sign a contract and show up for work by the 10th game you count as having played this year. If you have a contract and are holding out past August 10th then this year doesn't count for you and you have to wait one year longer for stuff like becoming a free agent.

Good for AJ Smith. The players union is way too strong and will be the undoing of this whole league.

Are you kidding? The players' union is ridiculously weak. If they had any muscle, they'd strike. Instead, they're scared to death of getting locked out.

Exactly.

Gene Upshaw was Tagliabue and Goodell's bitch for years.

The owners are demanding an 18% reduction in the amount of money given to the players. In the end they will win. The players have zero clout.

This 18% thing is never going to happen. It's a bargaining position. The owners want a rookie cap, and maybe to increase the regular season to 18 games. In the end, the cap will probably be where it is now in 2011, or higher.

whoops, thinking about baseball. IMO, it's ruined that sport, seems that football is next to go.

I've said it here many times before, they'll figure out a way to kill the golden goose.

I'm sure THEY will, but the THEY isn't the weak ass NFLPA which has been getting bitchslapped for years. Football players are in the most precarious position because their careers are so short. If they are locked out most of them will lose out on 1/3 of their earnings ability.
