Jets put 1st and 3rd round tenders on Holmes, Cromartie

Honestly, with the draft so stacked with DL and no one of value at 30 without reaching, if Braylon Edwards is let go, I honestly think we should trade up for Julio Jones. He plays EXACTLY like Braylon, except he's faster (4.39 with a BROKEN FOOT). I know it would NEVER happen, and people here would kill Tanny if it did, but I think he'd pay off big.

This is a shot in the dark, but a worthy shot in the dark

Yep.

Most likely, but good to cover your bases just in case they do a one year extension of the CBA or something like that.

It also should have some symbolic value. Especially with people speculating that they don't want Cromartie back.

Edwards is a 6 yr vet. He can't be tagged with restricted fa tag

That's what I was thinking.

On Tuesday the New York Jets made qualifying tender offers (compensation required if signed by another team) to 9 of their restricted free agents.  The list is as follows:

Antonio Cromartie: 1st and 3rd

Santonio Holmes: 1st and 3rd

Brad Smith: 2nd

Eric Smith: 3rd

Kellen Clemens: 3rd

Drew Coleman: 6th

Nick Folk: 6th

Right of First Refusal: James Ihedigbo and Robert Turner

(Note: The Jets were not able to tender Braylon Edwards as he has six years of service and is an unrestricted free agent.)

Before you begin analyzing these moves keep in mind that these tenders apply under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement which expires on Thursday.  There is a very good chance that the terms of the new CBA will change the years of service requirement (it is 5 years currently) which will make players like Holmes and Cromartie unrestricted free agents.

Actually, Jones ran a 4.39 and 9/10ths, which is really a 4.7.

It is meaningless. It just protects the Jets rights over the player (if it remains part of a new CBA). If somebody wants to sign him the Jets could accept less compensation for him.

I just don't see the point, though. I'd pay someone a 3rd to take Clemons.....
