Bleedin Green
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6796174/2011-nfl-lockout-nfl-sides-eye-camps-recertify-vote-source-says NFL owners and players have tentatively agreed to a plan that would allow for the players' executive committee to vote on Monday to recommend accepting the CBA and recertifying as a union, a source tells ESPN. Under the plan, players would begin reporting to training camps as early as Wednesday to physically vote on whether to recertify, with the hope that it will be done by Friday at the earliest, the source said. According to the source, progress in other talks with the owners has put the 11-member NFLPA executive board in position to vote Monday to recommend the 10-year collective bargaining agreement the owners ratified Thursday. The players' association's plan calls for the NFLPA's executive committee to meet in Washington, D.C. on Monday. If all agreements have been reached by then, the executive committee is expected to vote to recommend the CBA and recommend recertifying as a union, the source said. After that, the 32 player representatives also must recommend the CBA and recertifying. If the executive committee accepts the new CBA, the source said, players from certain teams would be allowed to report to training camps on Wednesday and players from other teams will be asked to report to camps Friday. The hope from both sides is there are enough votes to recertify the union by as early as Friday. The NFLPA needs a 50-percent-plus-one-vote majority of the players in order to recertify its union and accept the terms of the CBA. However, under this plan, a timeline for free agency and other player transactions is still uncertain. The NFL had announced Thursday it would open its doors to players under contract two days after the NFLPA's executive committee accepts the CBA and settlement terms from existing lawsuits and stated that free agency would start the day after the union is recertified. With that timeline incorporated, it's likely that free agents -- and possibly re-signings -- might not be able to start until July 30 at the earliest. The sides plan to continue sorting out the free agency process over the weekend, according to the source. It was vital for the NFLPA to have enough time for recertification and have a period of time for the renewed union to work out final details of its benefit plans. Only a union can negotiate benefits for its members and the NFLPA feared a Tuesday deadline to recertify would not leave enough time to properly negotiate changes in the benefits packages. Under terms of the owners' agreement from Thursday, players would have reverted to the 2010 benefits plan if they didn't make adjustments within a certain time period. Also Saturday, both sides got closer to settling the $4 billion network television insurance case, according to a source. That case, which is in the court of Judge David Doty in Minneapolis, involved damages suffered by the players after Judge Doty ruled against the owners. Come on ****ers, let's get this sh*t done!!! dbatesman
Mort's also the guy who said that Parcells was going to Atlanta, that Favre was staying retired, and that a "final detail or 2" was the only thing standing in the way of an NFLPA vote on Friday, so... Lupz27
Is it me or did the players play this perfectly to get rid of the 72 hour exclusive window cause the owners don't want to lose anymore preseason games. Vote on Tuesday free for all Wednesday.

Bugg
It's all smoke and mirrors. This is the players trying to have as few practices and 2 a days as possible. Note that the financial stuff is little different tham what was on the table in March. But the restrictions on minicamps and OTAs are new and very player-friendly. Aslo good to see someone thought about retirees.

Vinnie Cerrato (former Redskins clown) suggested that teams will sign their draft picks last because they're the only unsigned players that can't walk out the door during the fire sale. Good thing we drafted defensive linemen--every drafted skill position player is getting a redshirt.

Good thing we drafted defensive linemen--every drafted skill position player is getting a redshirt. That is a good point...although the new rookie pay scale could make it easier to sign picks. But that might not happen until next year after the confusion dies down a bit. Could you imagine being an NFL player without a contract right now? You are told you will be in training camp in a few days, you just don't know where. East coast \ West coast....that is a lot of stress for any players with families\kids. the Cromarties are going to need group counseling to work through it all. Crazy time. Good thing we drafted defensive linemen--every drafted skill position player is getting a redshirt. It's a good point and definitely makes you wonder if that was an intentional move to an extent. Granted the Jets could certainly use the help on the DL and the Wilkerson and Ellis picks made a lot of sense for the Jets and with where they were taken, but there's no question that the Jets could have address other positions, namely wide receiver, much earlier in the draft than they did. But given the lockout, you have to wonder if the Jets figured a skill position player was unlikely to have a major impact either way this year, so you might as well go with mid to late round picks there anyway. Especially when you consider that their first non-DL pick in the draft was a RB, which is the one position that has the most notoriously small learning curve for NFL readiness. THe 47% of revenue was basically whet they would have taken if they settled in March. Possibly the owners(not necessarily the coaches) might have been fine with not paying expenses for OTAs and minicamps.

If I'm understanding Jason's breakdown correctly, and I might not be, the owners saved about 20 million each off what the old CBA would have cost them. The players got more time off. Owners don't care about that, the coaches do

Owners don't care about that, the coaches do Most of the owners probably weren't heartbroken to be spared the expenses form OTAs and minicamps. And the truth is they have gotten out of hand. The NFL's enforcing of the OTA rules was becoming a pain in the a$$ for everyone. It's a collision sport. Most of these players who have long careers stay in shape anyway. No matter their bodies need time to recover. And while keepting the facility open for workouts is probably a minimal cost, running full blown minicamps and OTAs are not cheap. The owners like this lesser option going forward. Coaches are a different story. Most would like to practice from the day after the draft until June 1st, and then get back at it around July 15th.
