Schizophrenic NY media

Ex-Rex

Recommended Posts

For most of the early part of the season the NY media has bashed Rex and Idzik for the team's poor record and lack of improvement. Now, after ONE win over Pittsburgh it has become popular with these wonks to write about how Rex needs wins to save his job. Is this going to be an annual event? The Jets open the season 2-8 and then "rally" to 6-10 or 8-8 and all is well and let's just keep Rex around? This guy is half a$$ed and half a HC and I have been saying that for three years now. On a fourth down play in GB this buffoon is switching channels to defense while the OC desperately needs a timeout. Shows how much faith he had in the play call that's for sure as he was already thinking about it failing and what defense he was going to call. The guy undermined Mark Sanchez in 2011 when the kid could have actually been something, then 2012 was a nightmare of Sparano, Tebow and an offense that would take three plays to get a first down if the entire defense of the other team LEFT THE FIELD. The opening games of the season saw Rex's DEFENSE let us down every time the Jets closed to within a score and NEEDED a stop. Not only didn't we get a stop, this vaunted defense allowed touchdown drives EVERY SINGLE TIME. This is what you get with Rex Ryan and I think it is time for the schizoid media that loves his sound bytes to get real and tell the truth about where the NY Jets are under his tutelage.

It was only a matter of time before you realized how terrible this team is and no amount of coaching changes that.  Once that settled in, everyone remembered that Rex is actually good at what he does and this roster is a train wreck.

So thats where we're at.

the modern media narrative changes to suit their needs.  they don't have to report the facts or truth, they get to offer opinions and call it "reporting"

I don't listen to sports radio or read the sports pages because of that

At least I can understand the vantage point the beat writers are coming from: Rex is a loud, boisterous personality who makes their jobs writing columns easier.

What I can't for the life of me understand is the mindset of the "Rex dead-ender" element of the fanbase, who would rather lose with Rex than win with anyone else. It's like they're genuinely transfixed by his cult of personality. I've never seen so much love in all my life for a sub-.500 coach, who's made the same mistakes and has the same deficiencies over a 6 year span.

Ozzie Newsome had this buffoon pegged from the jump. But hey, what does he know - he's only the best GM in the NFL.

WATER IS WET

SCIENTISTS DISCOVER THAT WATER IS NOT ACTUALLY WET

This is your lesson in modern journalism.

Steve Serby, for example, writes only 4 stories.

The Jets or Giants are wonderful, run by geniuses, have a roster  filled with good character guys and this season will end in a Lombardi.

OR

The Jets or Giants stink, run by idiots, have a roster  filled with scum of the earth  and this season will end in every one for them being fired, traded, cut and incarcerated. And that guy has been doing that for 40 years.

Rex's secret is that he is well liked. The owner likes him, the media likes him and the players like him. OK, I get it, he is a likeable guy. But it is also no secret that he is seriously flawed as a HC and cannot match up against the best in the business. He has no idea how to draft - even on defense where the Jets have spent EVERY first round pick since 2010. With that said, the Jets should have a defense to rival Atlanta's Grits Blitz or the 1983 Bears, but we have a defense that is nowhere near as good as either. QB development? Forget that. David Lee has been QB coach since Sanchez was here and how much have our QB's developed? Yet here he still is. Sparano would probably still be here if Rex had his way. Oh yeah, I forgot that even a popular coach needs scapegoats no matter how well liked he is.

Serby, like Rich Cimini hates the Jets. Even when they compliment the Jets they throw something negative into the story.

Im a fan of Ozzie's work but he comes out of the Ray Rice situation looking pretty awful.

There's not a direct link between firing the coaching staff and getting better. They need better players.

However badly the players want Rex back, the media wants him back a lot more. Look for the Mehtas and Costellos of the world to empty their woe-is-Rex clips alongside thinkpieces pinning the Kennedy assassination on Idzik.

This. The absolute last thing the beat writers want is another Mangini. Guys like Herm and Rex are a writer's dream.

That's an absurd statement - firing a bad HC is addition by subtraction. Rex is a franchise cancer and the sooner he is excised, the sooner we can recover and move on to some semblance of normalcy and respectability.

This. I wonder when Mehta's next "Twitter poll" goes up...
