UPDATE, 1:18 p.m.: Three runs on three hits and a walk off CC Sabathia in the first inning. He was hit hard several times. Hard triple. Hard double. RBI single.

UPDATE, 2:06 p.m.: After that three-hit first inning, Sabathia’s allowed just one hit through the next three innings. It’s still a 3-0 Nationals lead in the bottom of the fourth.

UPDATE, 2:09 p.m.: Chase Headley’s terrific spring continues with an RBI double.

  • Sabathia is taking over Derek Jeter‘s old locker at Yankee Stadium, which is prime real estate because the locker is extra wide and near the exit. “Everybody’s making a big deal about the Derek locker — I mean, I know, it’s important to the fans. But I don’t think we need to designate it ‘the locker,'” said clubhouse manager Rob Cucuzza. [Barbarisi]

• Andrew Bailey was charged with three runs on a hit and two walks in his final appearance of the spring. Didn’t help him that Nick Goody allowed a three-run home run that brought in two of Bailey’s runners. Still, an encouraging spring for Bailey, who will stay behind to get more work done here in Tampa.

Tanaka's elbow is ready to shred in season-ending Tommy John surgery, Texiera is a weak popout to the shifted shortstop in shallow right waiting to happen and CC, Betances and Miller cannot get anyone out. A-rod might be the best player, and for reasons known only to their braintrust they will not bring up Reffsnyder(recall Jeter was a butcher with the glove, it worked out; not to say Reffsnyder is on the cusp of a HoF career but how many old guys need to falter before this guy gets the shot he's earned). Welcome to 2015. I see 82 wins.

Sabathia should just hang them up. gains and loses 100lb's every year and EVERY YEAR hes in the greatest shape of his life.  but the fact is his 88 mph fastball with his 85 mph curve ball just isnt gonna cut it. he is done.

Looks like he gained some life back on that fastball, fingers crossed it leads to better results.

Sabathia velocity hasn;'t been a problem this spring, he's been between 90-94 all spring.

This is a completely different team than last year.

Need McCann to have a better offensive year. Really need Tex to stay healthy and have a bounce back season. Anything from ARod would be a plus.

If C.C. can stay on the mound, they could be alright. Same for Pineda really....

Play Ball!

Sad to see Tanaka as a junkballer. Expensive one too. He's not gonna overpower anyone this year if he's not gonna throw his 4-seamer. His breaking stuff is so good, but hitters will just wait for that batting practice 2-seamer and crush it. Lineup is even sadder.

Hey it was a real tough game, but only 1 of 162.
