I am enjoying the sh*t out of Fallout, and I never even played the games (Just downloaded FO4 to my Playstation to fix that). Haven't enjoyed a tv show this much since The Expanse... it's pretty clever, well acted, and it makes me actually laugh out loud... "I'm not going to make it.. Just finished watching the monarch series about Godzilla.  Kind of a good spin on one of the key groups, monarch, in the later Godzilla movie.  Interesting to see Kurt russell and his playing his character in early and later life periods.  Now I guess I have to watch all of the subsequent Godzilla movies.  The last one I watched was 2014.

Oh man, the games are so freaking good. I'm replaying Fallout: New Vegas at the moment. That's probably the best one, but I really enjoyed Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. I played the sh*t out of Fallout 4 about 6 months ago, including all the DLC. The only current one I haven't played is Fallout 76.

It’s miles above Halo, Rings of Power, etc that’s for sure. I think for someone who’s never played the games and/or doesn’t care that much about Fallouts backstory and lore this show works a lot better. There are certain parts of the show that break the games lore but we are told the show is cannon so I guess they are retconning the games which is annoying.

 

If you play Fallout 4 my advice to you is not to get bogged down in side quests. Usually side quests are the best part of a big RPG like that but my experience with FO4 was the side quests were mostly just a repetitive slog and the main story was what was interesting. If you play Fallout 3 or New Vegas definitely explore and do side stuff but that’s just not FO4s strong suit imo. Also I don’t know if it’s the same on PlayStation but they added a thing on Xbox that let you add mods as if you were on PC. I believe it works for Skyrim as well. If you can I highly recommend looking up some kind of “home” or “base” mod that has all the workbenches and crafting tables and all that crap in one place.

76 was an absolute abomination when it came out. There were literally thousands of bugs (no I’m serious I remember watching a YouTube video document over 1000 unique bugs) most of which were carryovers from FO4 that modders had fixed. The thing that got me to quit was I spent hours making a house three separate times and each time I decided I was satisfied with it I would log in one day and find out some bug had deleted my house. I’m pretty sure it’s better now, at least somewhat, but the 76 experience was not a good one for me. Which is a shame because the setting was really good for a fallout map.

Are you referring to the timeline with the NCR/Shady Sands? I'll be honest with you. That really didn't bother me at all.

Yeah, that's interesting advice! Thanks! I tried Skyrim but just... couldn't.  I've been looking for something to get into for a while, tried Mass Effect... nope. Tried Dragon Age. Meh.

 

Played through Witcher 3 many, many times now, main game and all DLC (Blood and Wine is my favorite storyline). I think W3 ruined me for RPGs. FO4 came out the same year as Witcher 3, and looks like a 2nd Gen console game in comparison.

That and a few other minor things. I think what bugs me is that with just a little bit of care they could have been totally avoided. I mean maybe this is an intentional retcon and maybe it will be better somehow but if so I wish they’d communicated it better. I don’t think so though I think it was just lack of care. And yes the majority of viewers will not notice or care I totally get that.

I’ve had the same problem for awhile now with some of the exact same games. If you’re looking for a game to play I’d recommend Prey if you haven’t played it. It’s “open world” in that you can go where you want whenever you want and do things in the order you want but the game takes place on a large space station. What I like about it is you can solve issues and quests in really unique ways. Like say there is a locked door and you can see something you want in the room. You can go find the keycard to unlock the door…or you can just break the glass and go inside. OR you can sneak into the vents and drop down in the room. Stuff like that. It’s not a long game but it will definitely occupy you for awhile if you do a 100% playthrough.

 

ive never played Witcher but I always wanted to just never got around to it.

They've remastered Witcher 3. Its a great game, great story, and the voice acting is excellent. Unless Star Citizen lives up to the hype (Cyberpunk 2077 from the same devs did NOT imo), it's the greatest game to date. If you enjoy Video Games and RPG's in particular it is an absolute must. When I tried playing Skyrim after W3, I felt like I was playing Zork in comparison. LOL

I bought the Witcher 3 several years ago and never played it. It even came with both DLC's. In the past 6 months I started by playing Cyberpunk (with all the updates) and got all of the achievements and every ending except the suicide one. From there I moved to the Witcher and played that though the main story and the first DLC. I'm about 1/4 of the way through the Blood and Wine. I had to put it down for a bit because I was at it non-stop for 2 months straight. It's a great game but I miss ranged combat and that sh*tty crossbow doesn't count. So I started back up on a replay of FO: New Vegas. The graphics look every bit of the Xbox 360 but the story telling A+++ amd I love the game mechanics . Once I finish it I'll go back and finish the Witcher 3.

For the record, the patched up Cyberpunk was phenomenal and looks even better than the Witcher on my Series X. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

Man, ranged combat in the Witcher? Ew. LOL. I had some swords that were so upleveled and set my alchemy and skill tree up so even on Deathmarch, Geralt was like a Jedi. lol

I'm not saying W3 should have ranged combat. I'm saying that when I play melee only games for a long period of time I begin to really miss the games where you shoot things with guns, lol.

Unless Star Citizen lives up to the hype (Cyberpunk 2077 from the same devs did NOT imo), it's the greatest game to date. If you enjoy Video Games and RPG's in particular it is an absolute must. When I tried playing Skyrim after W3, I felt like I was playing Zork in comparison. LOL

Once I finish it I'll go back and finish the Witcher 3.

For the record, the patched up Cyberpunk was phenomenal and looks even better than the Witcher on my Series X. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

Ok I’m sold next time it’s on sale for like $15 I’ll pick it up.

 

New Vegas has some amazing mechanics by the way in case either of you aren’t aware. (I wasn’t, despite playing the game, until recently). The way the perks can interact with the game can get insanely intricate and unique depending on how you mix them and what quests you decide to do in what order and their outcomes. Definitely worth looking a video of these mechanics up and listening to someone blab about them to get an idea of how it all really works and what it’s capable of. Truly one of Obsidians masterpieces.

Yeah the first was a long (but exciting) table setter.  The rest are 55ish minutes.  And it is brilliant.

I loved the movie. It was super cool, stylish, fun, quick, and had great acting across the board.

I'm 6 episodes in on the show. It's stylish and sometimes cool, but it's also sometimes boring and just flat bad. I just don't think the lead actor is very good and it takes away from a lot of the scenes.

I know the Fallout people (I never played the game, don't care about the lore or exact details... and they didn't actively destroy anything in it that I can tell like they did to The Witcher on NF) are mad about stuff, but I enjoyed the sh*t out of Season 1.

Never played the game, so I have zero pre knowledge.  This is a well made show.  Has a West World feel but far better plot line.

It lost the thread quickly as seasons wore on but the first season of Westworld is one of the better seasons of TV of the past 10 years

1st season of WW was very good.  Went downhill extremely fast after that.  Fallout 1st season is excellent too.  I think it will show better consistency in future seasons than did westworld.

Wife and I have 2 more episodes of Fallout left to watch.

I thought WW sort of re-discovered itself at the end and I was intrigued to see how they'd finish it.  I was bummed when it got canned.

Only 2 episodes in.  I keep putting it off because reading the subs need full attention.  Plus I gotta watch it myself as Mrs Cat is out. She keeps thinking 'Tom Cruise' Shogun. Not worth the argument, tbh.  I really liked the 1st 2 episodes. I'll get there.
