Jet QB rotation for 2017

I've read many are not thrilled with Josh McCown starting this coming year. But I reason Mac had to have a vet quarterback to mentor the two kids. With a rebuild in place, I wonder what Mac/Bowles plan is regarding the QB position. Do they fill the tank with McCown and let the team sink? My guess is they start Josh for first 6 games, go 1-5. Then they bring in Petty for the next 4 or 5 and finish it off with Hack for the final quarter.  Any way you spin it, this team ain't winning more than 3 games.

That of course would be the dumbest possible scenario so you are likely right. Only one answer. Choose between Hack and Petty, give him all the reps. and 16 games. Anything else is just spinning our wheels and once again not answering the questions at QB.

unless petty and hack really lay some eggs in training camp and do not get the respect of the rest of the team, one of them should start.  this season should be all about developing a qb for future success and if petty/hack have the physical and leadership ability mccown should be planted on the bench.

You're dealing with a GM that drafted a midget, took 2 wr's at a position where we had ample potential, drafted safties back to back, overpaid for Fitz and overpaid for McCown who nobody was willing to give more than 2 million.  Stupid is as stupid does. So the question is why did Mac give McCown 6 million? To sit on the bench and draw diagrams on a clipboard for Hack and Petty? My guess is he plans to tank and tank hard while trying to give the impression he's trying to win. Other than that it makes no sense whatsoever.

Love the Bubba Gump reference LOL...Look we have a HC that will be coaching (and I use this term VERY loosely) for his job, he is not going to start a young, inexperienced QB. So let's all accept the fact that McCown will be under center in week #1, and that's not my fault or any other posters fault here, it is what it is.

You never know what you're gonna find in a box of chocolates. Getting back to the OP, what's your QB rotation this year because by golly there will be one and all 3 of these qb's will play.

Petty or Hackenberg or bust you do not start a 38 year old QB 18-42 NFL career on a young rebuilding team. No way in hell.

This isnt socialism.  Bowles can't give Petty or Hack the starting job if they aren't even close to a career JAG like McCown in performance in practice

It's going to be McClown until he gets benched or injured then Hack then Petty.  Sprinkle in some Jay Cutler I can see Macagnan getting desperate and trying to sign him

Regardless how good McCown looks Bowles needs someone to drill in his head the cold hard facts he has won 2 games in the past 3 seasons yet has 20 losses....and it's not like he's a fine wine and getting better with age. The roster he will be playing with will have similar talent level to that of when he was on the Browns and I think he won 1 game in 2 seasons with them. There is no such thing as he gives us the best chance to win...zero. he could look like Montana in training camp but facts are facts ...he has no business being on the field no matter how much "experience" he has.

It's the secret SFS plan. Mac has no intention on winning more than 2 games. As you said, McCown has won 1 or 2 games in the 2 years with Browns.

And Petty has won 1 and Hack 0

If we were really trying to tank we wouldn't have signed McCown and we wouldn't be talking Steve Smith out of retirement

And Fitz had a similarly bad win/loss record prior to 2015 - that's what Mac and Bowles are banking on is McCown having a season like what Fitz did 2 years ago

McCown, imo, is nothing more than a save your face addition. A vet QB which every team has at least one of. He probably sticks around a couple more years after Mac takes his QB in 2018.

It is June 15. Again, June 15.

This team, as it should, will allow mini camp to expire, review tape and discuss internally, allow training camp to happen, review tape and discuss internally, and then create a plan for pre-season games.

Then they will probably, after 2 games pre-season, finalize their plan for the start of the season.

That is when this will happen. Not June 15.

Because, that is how reasonable and prudent managers and executives handle things. Especially in sport, where there are so many uncertainties.

Did you just use "reasonable and prudent managers and executives" in reference to the current Jets hierarchy?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. No coach, GM, or player sets their sights on tanking or losing. They may lose alot this year but the Jets are freeing up money and gearing up to spend in 2018.  Bowles will put the best players on the field every week to try and win games. Does that mean McCown? I hope not, but maybe. The early part of the schedule is light so Bowles may go with McCown to nail down some early wins. Probably all depends on camp and preseason game play.

There's a lot of young players on the team that will want to nail down starting positions, make a mark in the NFL and get big contracts. The team is not set out to tank. No such thing.

Gloria Clemente: [to Billy] Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose. Winning or losing is all one organic mechanism, from which one extracts what one needs.

If Hack only plays the final quarter of the games then we basically know he stinks before he even gets on the field. If they go to Petty over him that's a terrible sign.

We chose to mostly lose!
