Martavis Bryant

Holmes was solid in his first year with the Jets and helped us get to the AFCCG, problem was that we resigned him to a large contract and got rid of half the offense to fund it.   After the contract was signed, he was injured and never had a productive season afterwards.

He stopped being productive before that injury happened.

The Steelers, meanwhile, unloaded him for a 5th and were fine at the WR position afterwards.

Wait, didnt you want to sign Demaryius Thomas? I'd don't want either but Bryant is a better risk/reward to take than Thomas.

Thomas doesn't have the type of issues Bryant has. Not sure why you'd compare the two.

I thought Thomas could be a solid vet who is a useful role player for a season. Someone a young QB can rely on.

Problem is Thomas isn't an effective enough WR to burn a roster spot on.  If you're going to take a chance on someone, better to get someone who is young and/or can contribute on special teams.  Those roster spots are precious, even on a team that isn't talent-rich.

Thomas has had similar numbers to Robbie Anderson over the last two years. He's also much less likely to end up in rehab.

Anderson averages 14.7 yards per catch for his career.  The last 2 seasons, Thomas has averaged below 12 yards per catch.  Very different receivers.  Thomas is a move-the-chains guy, and we just paid Quincy Enunwa handsomely to handle that role.

Thomas was also let go by 2 different teams last season.  Given that he turns 32 in December, he seems to be about toast.

We've already had this discussion in the Thomas thread. I have no idea how a thread about a drug addict has turned to this.

What price is the "right price" for a guy who hasnt worked out anywhere he's been?

You dont have to give consideration to a guy who clearly has the ability, but has clearly shown to not want it.

Granted, anyone can change...that doesn't mean a Jets team looking to avoid dysfunction should consider him.

Bryant sucked last year when he finally got a chance to start Derek Carr went the entire game without even targeting him once

now to be fair Carr has become a glorified Captain Checkdown under Gruden and Bryant is a downfield receiver
