Don’t move the goalposts because it just tells me that, deep down, you don’t think they’re going to win either. I don’t care what smashed means to you. Smashed could also mean the game is never close but the Jets score a garbage time TD to lose by 10 so anyone who didn’t watch thinks it was a tight game. It’s a very simple bet: Jets lose? You pay. Jets win? I pay. Take it, as is, or stop spewing your “Jets fans are a plague (edited to avoid the filter)” schtick all over the board to those of us that actually want to talk football objectively. You don’t have to think the Jets are a bad team to think that the 49ers are still a step ahead of them and that they’re probably going to lose week 1. I look at this game a lot like Detroit going to KC last year in week 1 and pulling out a win. It probably didn't mean much to KC but it meant a lot to the Lions. The Lions had a very good team last year but getting a signature win against a really good team probably changed the mind set for the season. I think this game is much bigger for the Jets than the 49ers. The Jets think they are contenders, the 49ers know they are contenders. Big game for the Jets. This should be a tight game and how we finish is really important. Should be a pretty even game. Week 1 is not going to give you the best of either team or a lot of adjustments.

Bobby816
49ers no question are a great team. And that's A LOT bc of coaching with Shanahan. We should be able to gameplan to know what they're going to do IMO. And what do I think we all know they want to do? Get the ball out of Purdy's hand fast and try not to expose their OL that actually isnt that good. So what do we need to make this game winnable? Tackle. We can't miss tackles. Expect screens to CMC, Quick hitters to Kittle and Deebo. So I expect them to know they're at a disadvantage with their OL. So they make sure they're not exposed if they can. Where we can attack here is try and score early to where they're forced to throw more. Making it harder to just do quick hitters.

There WR's, TE and running back are very hard to tackle and their offense gets all of them the ball in space. They create space and challenge you to tackle their skill guys with your skill guys in space.

Warfish
A Team that intends to compete for a Super Bowl should be able to go to another contender's city and win. So that's my standard of expectation/evaluation. Does the Jets look like a team that can win against another SB competitor in their city. Doesn't mean that they have to win, this is not a "must win" in week 1 (what a laughable idea), but it IS a statement game. Do the 2024 NY Jets announce their arrival, their "best roster", their intentions to really compete with a great game in week 1, come out firing, ready to go, not sloppy......or do they play like the same old Jets, and lose without ever being truly close. It's not definitive, but this year, week 1 may say a lot about this team and this upcoming season. We have many reasons for optimism as of now, let's hope we start seeing those reasons in real world ways on Monday night. 2

Constantly spamming/calling people a "D-isease" is pretty obviously against the site rules, and damn rude regardless. I think the Jets are team with a mediocre at best HC and a QB who's best days are in the rear view mirror. That said the season starts this week. The Jets haven't played a game yet and neither have the 49ers. There isn't a Jets fan on this board that hates the Jets more than I do. Still I really believe they have a great shot to win this game. The Jets are healthy, the OL looks pretty good. We have a great running back in Hall and a great WR in Wilson. The D should be solid to very good. Most NFL games have pretty equal talent but real matchup problems that impact outcome. I really don't see the big mismatches in SF favor this week. I think Hall and Wilson are a big problem for the 49ers. If we tackle well, which the d is capable of we have a great shot at limiting the mismatches that SF usually exploits. I really think this is a toss up game on the road.
