afosomf
Can the Redskins' search get any more screwy? Still without a head coach, Washington fired assistants Gregg Williams and Al Saunders on Saturday, promoted Greg Blache to lead the team's defense and announced that a head coach would likely not be in place for at least another week. The Redskins also formally announced the hiring of Jim Zorn, who agreed to a three-year deal Friday to lead the offense. "The process of selecting a new head coach continues, although no hire is planned until after the Super Bowl so as not to distract from the championship game as well as to keep open all our options," owner Dan Snyder said in a statement, his first public comments on a coaching search that began more than two weeks ago. "We are on track with our interviews," Snyder added. "But in the interim we also are filling our coaching positions and re-signing several existing staff members." Williams, the defensive coordinator, is widely considered one of the best and most aggressive defensive minds in the NFL, and his unit was the strength of the Redskins' playoff run. Still, the highest paid defensive coordinator in the NFL, is without a job despite having one year remaining on his contract. Williams shouldn't be unemployed for long, as the St. Louis Rams have already requested permission to interview him and the Jacksonville Jaguars have shown interest as well. Williams was thought to be the frontrunner for the Redskins' head coach job at first, but when Vinny Cerato was promoted to executive vice president, Williams' chances were destined to fade. Washington has been calling others in the league, asking about Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, as well as gathering information on Jim Fassel. At this point, the Redskins are saying they are content to wait until after the Super Bowl to make a hire. link

K2C
Snyder is a moron. how can you fill positions before you have a head coach? Not to mention he's basically telling any potential HC that they will have zero control over his staff..
serphnx
Snyder has got to be the worst owner in the NFL. Al Davis does the same things though I guess, but I don't think Davis is even this bad.

NY JETS 29
Unfortunately we gave Callahan title of Assistant Head Coach, it would have been nice to throw some $$ at Williams and give him that title.
Mangini`s Jets
I'll take Greg Williams as DC,no questions asked. But Greg is a 4-3 guy not a 3-4. All set with him.
Thai Jet
Snyder is a moron. how can you fill positions before you have a head coach? Dallas did it with Garret last year before Wade was hired and your old pal Al Davis seems to be doing it wanting to keep Rob Ryan and jettison young Kifin. Agreed , Snyder IS a mOron. I despise him after the Deadskin raid on our Jets a few years back.
