Have rookie coaches ever won a superbowl?

Don McCafferty (Baltimore Colts 1970) and Seifert are the only ones to win a SB as rookie HCs.

Tom Flores (Raiders), Joe Gibbs, and Brian Billick did it in their second year. Either Wisenhunt or Tomlin will join this group.

Bill Walsh did it in his 3rd year.

Ok. He has some talented players, but your Pass D was pathetic.

have you ever thought about the fact of the setup mangini had? dont you think playing prevent for half a game will make your pass D look bad? under the right coach you dont see rhodes, and revis making a bigger impact?

With that front 7, Revis and Rhodes are wasted.

And so was the Pats' Pass D. Get serious here. The Pats secondary has sucked for quite awhile.

I agree a 110%. Make that 120%. ;)

That is why the mocks saying the Patriots are taken Cushing (LBer) from USC are funny. Just about all of them have someone taken DJ Moore from Vandy right behind the Patriots selection. He goes to Vandy so he is smart. He led the SEC in picks in 2007, was among the leaders in punt returns and saw time on offense. That is everything the Patriots look for. Smart and Versatile.

I thought the Patriots just wanted players that have thick skin. This way the can better deflect the inevitable "Cheater" criticism.

Wrong as usual. The problem with the Jets D last year was not a lack of talent on the front 7.

The problem was scheme.

In the first few games, while playing aggressively, Bryan Thomas had four sacks. For some reason, Mangini's ball shriveled up and the Jets stopped attempting to put pressure on the QB.

No, that would be the Dolphins not the Jets.

Actually, no.

If the Patriots handle their business AT HOME at beat the Jets, the Patriots win the division. End of story.

Unfortunately, the Pats' aged defense crumble again in a big spot, just like they did against the Giants in the SB and the Colts in the AFC championship game.

The Pats couldn't have had a better chance to win the division than facing the Jets at home. But the Pats blew it.

The front 7 was terrible towards the end of last season, but like Klecko said - It was largely down to the vanilla schemes employed by Mangini and Sutton. Calvin Pace is a very good pass rusher, as is David Harris. Yet they spent most of their time in coverage. It was ridiculous really.

Our front 7 has talent. Kris Jenkins is one of the most dominant NT's in the league. If he could sustain that throughout the season then we'll be fine. He was the best defensive player in the league up until around week 12. We need to get some depth behind him or get some better players next to him (Coleman is garbage). If we can do that it will make a HUGE difference.

Gholston needs to improve obviously and if there's anyone who can make that happen it's Rex Ryan. If he can be a consistent pass rusher next season, even if it's only on 3rd down then that would be ****ing great. If not then we're doomed to another year of Bryan Thomas.:face:

Our secondary has two studs, one incredibly inconsistent safety and then a string of players who at best are still a liability on the field. Either Lowery needs to improve in a BIG way or else we bring in an upgrade.

Either way it's pretty tough to judge what next years defense will be like when you're basing it on this one. There is talent there and with a defensive guru like Ryan at the helm and a defensive co-ordinator with a very similar philosophy there is no way things are going to stay the same. I have high expectations for our defense, we do need to bring some people in but I'm confident we'll have a very strong group.
