Former New York Jets coach Eric Mangini dances around QB issue

Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini learned his lessons well from his experience with the Jets last season. Need we remind you of the QB battle between Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens -- which ended when Brett Favre was acquired from the Packers?

Now running the Browns, Mangini spent this morning at the NFL owners meetings in Dana Point, Calif., trying to convince reporters that Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn will battle for the starting QB position in Cleveland this season -- although trading one while dealing for another was not ruled out.

Way to leave all options open, Eric. Mangini knows full well a third team like the Jets may need him to deal one of his QBs to the Broncos to help them land Denver's Jay Cutler. Or that he may need to deal one of them to the Broncos himself to acquire Cutler.

That is if Denver ever chooses to trade Cutler, which we still maintain the Broncos will not. Time will tell.

What we can be sure of is Mangini will never tip his hand to tne media until he has already made his move. Alert to reporters in Cleveland: Don't waste your time to read between the lines on this guy. It's futile.

Seems like he's doing EXACTLY what he should be doing.

Why would they be decent?

They are filling their defense with our used garbage, he's alienated their best defensive player, who happens to be a guy that's known for not giving it 100% when he's unhappy, and they also traded one of the only two playmakers on their entire team, and may trade the other.

It's going to be a trainwreck.

you can already tack on four losses to their season considering how much better the steelers and ravens are than the browns, not to mention having to play the broncos bears and bills on the road.

with that said they'll have their work cut out for them to even sniff a decent season

....and a healthy C. Palmer on the bungles. Does anyone remember how comical the defensive schemes were when Mangini prepared his game plans for high flying offenses? We have two of the league's best DBs and our secondary was always putrid under Eric the not so great.

Who are the brownies DBs again?

CLEVELAND ROCKS!

...the basement of the NFL.

I'e been scratching my head as to why the clowns grabbed Mangini up so quickly. Then Shanny and Gruden BOTH become available. Damn glad they got neither of them too!

But many folks here seem to think that they'll somehow deal for Cutler as most observers feel Brady Quinn is a dink and dunker with weak arm strength, think Chad Pennington II.

Amen -

Take their already crap offense and inject Tubby's read and react 20 yards off the ball punishing defense and the Clowns win 4 maybe 5 games.
