Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be suspended for four to six games on Wednesday for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to multiple sources.

When the suspension is announced, it will contain conditions that will allow it to be reduced based on Roethlisberger's behavior and compliance with clinical evaluators.

Commissioner Roger Goodell's verdict will reinforce a message that NFL employees will be held to a higher standard than the law.

Steelers employees were bracing Tuesday night for what they suspected would be an eight-game suspension, but two sources said it would not be eight games.

The additional, but conditional (rhyme!) 2 games is a joke. Clearly this is an effort to make sexual assault look worse in the eyes of the league than getting high, but is there any doubt Ben will be back after 4 games?

No doubts, whatsoever. Why just not call it 4 games and be over with it? Don't insult our intelligence by calling it "maybe 6 games". Like the NFL is going to let a marquee QB from a storied franchise sit out that long.

Good thing Ben didn't rape a dog, he'd be in prison.

What kind of conditions? If he doesn't rape anyone during the first three weeks he'll get reinstated after four? Think you can control yourself that long you ****ing douchbag?

The NFL is a hypocritical joke.

Seriously - Vick fights some dogs, gets pounded by NFL. Ben, while not charged, is involved in three alcohol related sexual assault incidents, gets what will amount to be 4 games. Yeah Ben wasn't charged....so what? I've been doing this long enough to know there are plenty of guilty people who aren't charged because of a nonparticipating victim or an unfortunate lack of evidence for the purposes of trial.

These are the (Supposed) conditions:

  • That he undergoes some type of psychological therapy
  • That no additional accusations of Sexual Misconduct come forward from any one he has been with in the last year prior to & including the suspension
  • That he is not envolved in any other type of condition that is reflective to any of the other possible misconduct issues
    • Alcohol
    • Controlled Substances
    • Character misconduct

[*]That he joins a step program related to any issues that may have contributed to the incidents (IE: Alcohol)

That's why the Rooneys went to the NFL prior to review. I still believe they may try to trade him, especially if he attempts to have this ruling arbitrated.

He was also convicted...

If Big Ben was convicted of rape he would be in as much if not more trouble with the NFL...

It all falls on the prosecutors and the GOBs of the world now to nail him.

as much detest i have for dog fighting scumbags.....i'd think that if ben was convicted of rape, not only would he never play another down a professional football in his life, but he'd be in prison for a while to boot. at least you would hope that would be the case

Commissioner Roger Goodell's verdict will reinforce a message that NFL employees will be held to a higher standard than the law.

I can't believe that nobody else seems to find this completely ****ing retarded. If he's not going to specify a standard he at least has to make some explicit factual finding as to the basis for the suspension. And 'involvement' in one or more 'incident(s)' doesn't count.

Sounds like a great way to run a legal system.

Report: Steelers begin actively shopping Ben

Posted by Mike Florio on April 21, 2010 11:56 AM ET

Though we've seen the reports suggesting that the Steelers won't trade quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, we haven't believed them. The Pittsburgh media has opened the door far too wide, and the team has done nothing to slam it shut.

Recently, a theory had emerged that the Steelers were choosing not to nip the buzz in the bud in order to ensure that Roethlisberger spends a week or so in fear of being exiled out of Pittsburgh, something that actually may be in his best long- and short-term interests.

If it's a ruse, it's a damn convincing one.

A day after Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Steelers are receiving trade feelers from other teams, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Steelers are contacting teams in the top ten of the draft regarding a possible trade.

Per Schefter, at least one team is considering the possibility of sending the top-ten selection to the Steelers for Roethlisberger.

As explained in a PFTV segment we'll be posting soon (actually, in two of them), there's a team in the top ten that should be more than willing to make the swap.

Goodell says Roethlisberger decision has not been made

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 21, 2010 12:17 PM ET

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says ESPN has jumped the gun.

Speaking at a Play 60 event in Central Park just a short jog away from where I'm locked to the computer, Goodell said that he hasn't made a decision about Ben Roethlisberger's punishment.

Goodell wouldn't even confirm a suspension was coming, according to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported earlier Wednesday that Roethlisberger will be suspended 4-6 games. (He could have six-game suspension reduced to four if he satisfies certain conditions.) FOX's Jay Glazer also said Roethlisberger will get 4-6 games.

Perhaps the league wants to announce the news on its own terms. We suspect we'll find out the official scoop from the NFL soon enough.

:face:

Great Post. I totally agree.

First, I hate a trial by media so if Ben acted badly, but didnt do waht he was rumored to do, then the league shoudl be open about it. Even if it is a he said she said.

He hasnt been convicted of anything. That does not mean he is not guilty, but it also does not mena he is guilty.

That said, if he commited the ultimate horrible act, than he shoudl simply be banned from the league.
