vanDoug
IMO What makes a great band is a Great Bassist and Drummer. Even the crappies lead sounds great with a solid foundation, but all the guitar talent in the world won't mean anything with a solid bassist and drummer (in Rock obviously. The person above knows what they're talking about. For great bands I'll suggest... Yes The Yes Album Fragile Close To The Edge Jethro Tull Aqualung Thick As A Brick Passion Play (arguably their most prolific) In both cases, these were 3 albums in a row. d

The Troll
And I'll give another band too.... Metallica: Kill'Em All is the genre setter for Speed Metal. Ride the Lightning is a classic Metal Album... ...as is Master of Puppets, considered by most as THE Metal Album ever. And the Self-Title "Black Album" was an enormous crossover success, bringing Metal to the Masses. Thats 4. "...And Justice For All" will always be my favorite Metallica album. IMO, they had five before they started to go into the gutter. Ever song on "Justice" is a classic. And I'm not gonna name albums, but I think that the five greatest bands ever were: 1. Led Zeppelin 2. Rolling Stones 3. Black Sabbath 4. AC/DC 5. Alice In Chains

Panzer Division Marduk
judas priest: 1. sad wings of destiny 2. unleashed in the east 3. rocka rolla Nah, painkiller's gotta be in there. Okay. Maiden: Powerslave Piece of Mind Killers, and even today they're coming out with strong stuff. Overkill: Horrorscope Taking Over The Years of Decay. The thing with them is they've never released a substandard album. How many bands can honestly say they've kept a consistently high standard for 20 years? Kreator: Terrible Certainty Pleasure to Kill Violent Retribution.

NJ
1.) Allman Brothers - live at the Fillmore East 2.) Led Zep - It's all good, cant begin to pick a best 3.)Best album various artists - Woodstock Many rock and roll hall of famers featured but my personal favorites are Alvin/TYA doing I'm Going Home and Santana's Soul Sacrifice - Michael Schrieve does things with his drum kit in that song that I still find almost impossible.
