The Jets announced that they have waived WR Mardy Gilyard.  He was signed in November after being a 4th round selection of the St. Louis Rams in the 2010 draft.  He had previously spent time with the Jets in 2011. Here is the press release from the Jets:

December 24, 2012

– The New York Jets have waived WR
Mardy Gilyard
. The announcement was made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Gilyard (WR/6-1/187/Cincinnati/Daytona Beach, FL)

originally entered the NFL as a 2010 fourth-round draft pick of St. Louis. In one season with the Rams, he caught six passes for 63 yards before he was waived following the 2011 preseason (09/03/11). Gilyard was claimed off waivers by the Jets (09/04/11), but was waived (09/10/11) prior to the season opener. He signed with Philadelphia (01/06/12) and was waived during the preseason (08/31/12). Gilyard re-signed with the Eagles (09/10/12) and played in six games before being waived (11/23/12) and then signing with the Jets (11/28/12). In four games with the Jets, Gilyard appeared in two, catching two passes for 15 yards. For his career, he has appeared in 19 games and has logged eight receptions for 78 yards.

What little I saw of him he made a mistake on one play. Despite being with the Jets before, he clearly is new to their system and contributed little.

His only fault seems to be that the Jets were looking to pick a receiver off waivers and have him blossom immediately, and Gilyard was not him.
