Bcess
kerley rarely saw the field as a wr and was horrid as a returner. It only makes sense to fill his spot with a pr/kr specialist. They have nothing to lose

JoJoTownsell1
he must have hit on bowles' wife or something, his benching in the offense was bizarre. It actually made perfect sense in Gailey's system. They wanted Decker in the slot and a burner on the outside to stretch the defense a little. Kerley can ONLY play in the slot. I like Kerley and he would probably catch 80 passes in the slot for a guy like Brady, but he just didn't fit for us.

bostonmajet
I think he would have made a better 3rd option than enunwa smith or thompkins. a good coach finds a way to use talent A good coach realizes that sometimes you play a player that may not be as good as another as he fits the rest of the players better. The way Chan moved people in and out of the slot gave us the best offense we have had in a long time and the only sacrifice was that a relatively small and slow player was replaced with other players. Also, a good coach finds ways to get younger players some experience. Maybe Kerley catches that pass that Thompkins drops, but it is doubtful Kerley would have gotten that open on the outside like that. A good coach doesn't let the benching of an average player effect his decision to put the great players on the team in the best position to succeed. I think they wasted a talented guy. enunwa smith and thompkins all sucked. the offense was crying for a 3rd option but kerley didn't get whiffs. this is on fitz as well, he was obsessed with marshall, forced throws to him every week. A lot of time marshall rewarded him, but a lot of times it was just dumb and gailey and fitz owe everything to marshall, without HIM the jets are 4-

No, you put the best group of the field at once; sometimes the best group doesn't include some average player that the fans love. Sometimes you want speed or height for the match up; sometimes you want blocking; but, yeah sure, let's pull Decker out from the slot just to get Kerley on the field. jamesr
that was my original point, lol I thought the implication was that it wasn't talent related, more that they didn't get on. Decker was Gailey's preferred slot player. Decker is far more talented than Kerley. So maybe the argument should be that the outside player opposite Marshall was lacking, which I'd agree wholeheartedly with.
FidelioJet
Kerley is a good players Kerley is a good WR kerley should have been used more so than Thompkins This was a no brainer to me...I'm sorry but I don't buy the he can't block argument. The guy is a good WR and catches everything. There was something there more than his skill set. Tompkins is not a good WR - he made a few plays, but he's not a starting caliber WR in the NFL - Kerley is.
drdetroit
I don't know why our CS hates Kerley so much he's a decent player who was effective this season when he got a chance. Watch him go to the pats or bills and just tear it up.

Most passing TDs, 2 double digit TD receivers...would you rather those numbers dip a little bit so we can get poor old Kerley involved? THAT sounds like the mentality of a coach who is too loyal to "his guys"...where have I heard that before?
nyjunc
he was not bad as PR and was sure handed which is the most important part of returning. Remember how good of a KR Joe McKnight was? it was meaningless b/c he was always fumbling. Kerley is likely gone but our new PR had better be sure handed. Remember how good of a KR Joe McKnight was? it was meaningless b/c he was always fumbling. Kerley is likely gone but our new PR had better be sure handed. He was sure handed, but that was it. Too often he fair caught it inside the 10; he would dance around or run sideways too much on punt returns and the coverage sucked. Some of that is coaching and is why April was fired. I like Kerley, but he is just an average WR with good hands. If he had the explosion of an Edleman for example, he would have found more time as high quickness would compensate for his lack of size and blocking - if he is that good, you give up leveraging Decker/Marshall in the slot. Sorry, but I don't think he is in the coaches dog house, I think what he brings to the table as far as WR is reduced too much by his negatives. Two years ago, he was the best we have; now we choose the flexibility of having Decker/Marshall in the slot and having bigger, stronger, and faster WR on the outside. They have nothing to lose Not true. He was league average. I'm all for a more dynamic return man, but to say Kerley was horrid is narrow sighted. The Jets should be able to find a decent return option in the draft as they search for RBs/WRs to fill holes.
