So he can certainly get some play time, but wouldn't be considered to be the first guy off the bench for the position on regular downs if they don't trust him with the other responsibilities that come along with it (i.e., playing the run, dropping into coverage, etc.). If that is the case, it will be more of a question of how much he can contribute in that situational role this year, and whether he can further develop from there. good point but at the same time he was a third round pick and should be expected to be more than a situational player. as you said maybe it'll take some time to work him in and develop his skills . but i would contend that these guys have been playing football for most of their lives so they should've picked up a thing or two along the way. anyway it's still early in his career and here's to hoping he's good in whatever role he plays. They can do that if they want, but Crowder will require less work to prove himself since he probably has 100 career punt returns. Let the other guys fight it out. If one shines, cool. If not - Crowder is there. No shock he isn't on the depth chart for preseason game #1. I think Crowder is too important to the offense to risk on the punt return team. Much rather have that role filled by a backup/specialist.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree he deserves to be in the mix. However, the veterans over rookies thing is a myth completely fabricated around here, with no evidence that exists to really support it. Neither Darnold nor Herndon had a particularly tough time getting out there last year. Same goes for the likes of Adams, Maye, Jenkins, Anderson, or Williams before them. With the sole exception of Shell, who got in towards the end of his rookie year, every other Jets' rookie who ever turned out to be worth a damn was identified rather immediately. Gase actually has a worse track record with getting hung up on older players than Bowles ever did, whether we all want to admit it or not (see his obsession with 35-year-old Gore). Point simply being, there is no precedent to suggest his lack of contributions last year has any deeper meaning than he needs to do more this year to stick. flgreen
Roster News: Jets release Nick Truesdell 06 August 2019 The Jets have confirmed that the Alex Lewis trade, which was contingent on him passing a physical, is now final. They also confirmed the corresponding move: Truesdell was the AAF tight end the Jets picked up on Sunday. He practiced just twice with the team. This means the Jets are back to having just five tight ends on the roster, including Chris Herndon who will start the season on the suspended list. JohnnyLV
I think at this point Tim White, Dortch, Cannon. and Deontay are all very very likely to make the team. Decisions will definitely be made in preseason games. Dortch has shown receiving capability as well, so he just needs to not fumble punts in the preseason. There is a twitter post of him catching 5 punts, keeping all the balls in his hand before the next one.

Not sure who the gunner will be if we drop both Peake and Cannon, however.

What was he in DC? He had 25 more targets than the next closest guy in 2017 and still returned punts. It's not that big a deal. He is a football player, not a delicate flower. docdhc
The base defense depth chart is interesting but teams now play nickel as much or more than the base 3-4 since it is such a passing league. Poole will be the nickel back guarding the slot but who comes out. Mosely is a 3 down LB as was Williamson last year but does he come out in nickel this year? Do they put in Quinnen to rush from the nose and add Polite or Cashman or Luvu over Copeland? What about guarding 5 receiver sets? Do both inside backers come out for an extra CB like Nickerson? It will be interesting to see Gregg Williams mix and match.

One thing we already know about Douglas, he and his new department are very familiar with other rosters and have been aggressive in improving the talent on this team. Douglas didn't draft *any* of these players. And if the past week is any indication, they will continue to cherry pick guys as the become available through August. Making the final cut and being on the team for Week 1 are two different things. Any fringe guy who makes it through all of camp and is on the sideline vs Buffalo will have most definitely earned it. PepPep
23 hours ago, Bleedin Green said: I'm not sure there's been anywhere near enough evidence to suggest "great hands" or "fantastic chemistry" when you have a team that had an endless stream of injuries at the WR position, and yet he still only showed up as a real contributor for 2 games all season, with a full 2 months in between. That's not to say he doesn't have a shot, but he hardly qualifies as a proven resource for the position depth, and certainly is far from being guaranteed anything. That's especially true when considering an entirely new coaching staff and front office. I just call em as I see em. Watching Burnett play the first thing that jumps out at you is that he has great hands. Watching him play with Darnold, the first thing that jumps out at you is that they have good chemistry. Dortch from what it seems will be the PR
