Don't be fooled.  It's big but it's not the end of the season either way.   Thursday night November 13, 2008.  We beat the Pats in overtime to get to 7&3.  We went to TN the following week and beat a very good Titans team to go 8&3.  We proceeded to crap our pants down the stretch to finish 9&7 and out of the playoffs.

The Jets need to stack wins down the stretch.  That's what good teams do.  This game is big but it's not our SB.

Playoff games are elimination games.  This isn't a playoff game.

Very true, and also in 2010 we got embarrassed by the patriots in primetime when we were both tied at 8-2, just to go on and beat them in NE in the divisional round. A loss does not mean the season is over, but a win could propel this team quite nicely!

I came Into this thread to post about the late season collapses in 1997 (started 8-4 and finished 9-7 and out of the playoffs), 2000 (started 6-1 and 9-4 and then finished 9-7 and out of the playoffs), and 2008 (so bad)

This is the Jets chance to announce they have arrived, and they don’t do it with a close win. While the score does not have to be a blowout, it would have to a convincing win where it is clear the Patriots are not on the same level as the Jets. Something like 20-3 where the pats O gets inside the Jets 40 only twice.

note: this is not a prediction. Rather, it’s an observation if how important this game can be in the development of this team and the franchise being led by JD and Saleh.

I get it, it's not an elimination game.  But for the sake of "feels", we are either first or last in the division, have the inside track to the playoffs or are "in the hunt".  It just feels like for a November game, this is as meaningful as it could possibly be.

There is no doubt we lose and it’s going to be painful.  Win and it’s pure joy.   The Pats feel like a huge weight sitting on our chest making it impossible to breath.

The Jets  can win and go down in flames and can lose and fight our way back in.   There’s a long way to go…

In a lot of ways this Jets team has exercised most of the SOJ demons. September win, division win, road Pittsburgh win, road Denver win. This is the one we have not accomplished yet. Win this and this young team is free if all the baggage. We were clearly a better team than NE last time and momentum was crippled by the RTP. But Zach was not fooled by NE he just made 2 really bad plays trying to do too much. Lost in that was the fact that otherwise he tore NE a new one. And he left the game knowing he blew it, but then proceeded to beat Buffalo and outplay Allen. This is a gigantic game. If we win we are almost guaranteed to get into the playoffs and will be in the driver's sear for 1st. Of course if you listen to the media they act like we are 3 and 6 and have no chance

Yes, it would be hard to imagine missing the playoffs with a win here.

This does feel like a playoff game.  But win or lose, we need to at least play our game against them.  Don't let them throw everything we do into disarray.  We need to look like a team that plays a certain style no matter how good the opponent (or their CS) is.  Games against the Pats are always a good measuring stick because we're going up against the best HC in the NFL and he probably wants to beat us as badly as any coach wants to beat any team.   So we're fortunate to have that measuring stick 2x per year (at a minimum).

I felt confident we'd lose in the game in NY.  For some reason, I feel much more confident that we'll play well tomorrow.  And while it is a huge game that we need to win (or else potentially fall into last place), I think it's also a huge test just to see how we compete against them.  We can't having bungling performances against them (like we did last time).  This will really show how much progress (or lack thereof) we've made as a team.  And we had a bye week too so there has been plenty of time for preparation.  So this is a huge test for our CS as well.
