N.O. Seems to have big need at OL, as Hurst retires on day of draft

 New Orleans Saints offensive lineman James Hurst announced his retirement Wednesday, concluding a 10-year career in the NFL. He signed with the Saints in free agency after the conclusion of the 2020 NFL draft and started 51 games over four seasons at both offensive tackle and guard. 

Hurst's retirement leaves the Saints with more offensive line questions on the eve of the 2024 NFL draft, which begins Thursday night (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Center Erik McCoy and right guard Cesar Ruiz are the only starters from the 2023 offensive line assumed to be in their same starting roles in 2024. Right tackle Ryan Ramczyk is battling knee issues, leaving his training camp status and potentially his season in doubt, left tackle Trevor Penning lost his starting role just five games into the season, and former left tackle/left guard Andrus Peat was not re-signed in free agency.

The Saints have the 14th overall pick in the draft, with a heavy need for an offensive tackle following the departures of Peat and Hurst.

Another trade down candidate, since the Jets will have their pick of several OL at 10. What would a trade down look like here? Could we get a 2 this year? A 1 next year?

They should be able to get a good one at 14. Maybe a better one at 10😉

I saw a mock draft somewhere, that actually had us trading down with N.O.

If we can get a second this year out of it, I say do it and take the OL from Oregon state at 14, then go wr with the second. If no second this year, stand pat at 10

If nabers and odunze are gone get on the phone take their 14th and 45th pick give then something like our 4th and 5th

If JJM is available at #10 there could be a few teams open to a trade. If Alt is there @ 10 JD could have a tough decision to make re: taking Alt or trade down to gain the 2nd rd pick

The Saint's don't have much draft capital this year.  They don't have a 3rd or 4th so we would be an unlikely trade partner unless they massively overpay with their 2nd.

Agreed. Eagles would set up much better if they wanted to come up for cb. 22, 50 97( comp pick) Would depend 1) no Wr on board2) how desperate they want guy.

Yes.  That's why they want to move up to go all out for a top 10 pick

We can get a 2nd round pick, if we give something back.  We might have to give back our #72nd pick, in order to get their 2nd rounder, which would be around #46 or so.  Or maybe give up both 4th round picks instead?  Not too sure.

If we can get back a 2nd rounder this year, get the 14th pick, and not give up anything else, I would consider that a home run.

If that's the case I wouldn't mind a pick swap of the NO's 2nd for one of the Jets Day 3 picks like a 4th or 5th for the Jets to drop back to the Saints spot where they can still get a good OL, WR or maybe even Bowers is still on the Board.

Between New Orleans and the Rams, that's 2 more teams who want OL help.  Though, tbh, maybe we should just take OL since we have 2 starting OTs on the wrong side of 30 and they're both on 1 year deals.

why would the Saints trade up in a rich OT draft?

I doubt The Saints have enough draft capital to move up anywhere I think they are stuck in cap hell and draft hell
