124
As long as we stay healthy and the Quarterback, whoever it is, doesn't make stupid mistakes and plays well, the Jets are serious contenders, IMO.

AVM
Pats-Colts-Steelers-Chargers -- Division Winners and easily favorites to make the playoffs(division or wildcard), all 4 teams have the talent Jaguars, Titans -- Both strong teams, a good chance they can get back Jets, Browns, Bills -- All 3 improved teams, each with a very good shot to make the playoffs. Also important not to forget Denver, who as always, has the talent. Thats 10 teams folks, all of which now have the talent to make the playoffs. There are going to be a couple of teams that are very upset next year.
bLguerriero1
i gotta admit, i always stop in these forums to see what the news is and when i saw this i almost dropped.. i am so happy, this actually gives us something to cheer for.. i actually had to get an account i got so excited.. but i think this is real good it gives us a good chance to be a contender i dont think u can just mark down the pats as winnin the division, we could very easily do it dependin on clemens progression

We finally have an offensive line that has some size and powerful players (Faneca, Woody) and our defensive line isn't going to get blown off the LOS every player. Goodbye to undersized, weak O and D linemen (D-Rob, Clement, Clarke. Brick you're still here but you're the pass protector specialist). Hello to big mo-fos who play with a mean streak. I'd actually be disappointed if this team didn't make the playoffs next year.
joewilly
while we're better in the trenches you can hardly label us a good team. we have potential but players need to gel as a team and good coaching is req'd. as of now we are no better than the 4-12 jets til we prove otherwise on the field. i'm glad we're signing guys in the trenches though. Im a little gun shy about getting my hopes up for the playoffs, as every year I expect big things have been our worse years in recent memory. If the Jets aren't REAL contenders though, it'd be a complete and total failure, IMO.
DaBrick Wall
The Super Bowl isn't won in the offseason. That being said, the Jets have greatly improved their team and I'm very excited for the season.
Barton
If we get good-to-very good QB play there is no reason why this team should not make the playoffs (if they stay healthy of course) and actually do some damage once we get there. We still have the draft to fill a few holes too. This is fun! I like being optimistic about the Jets!
124
As Barton and others are saying, QB play is the key once we are able to fill the remaining holes at Cornerback and Wide Receiver.
Kidhuman
I say yes. We are a serious contender right now on paper. ow well it gels on the field remains to be seen. I think we can take the division if all goes well. I dont see NE repeating the same season they had last year.
shawn306
I'm going to sit back and wait and see what the draft brings. This team still needs a speed burner at WR, a dominant pass rusher on the end to go with Jenkins and Ellis. I would still like to see them get a safety instead of going with Elam and most likely a CB. There is STILL alot of work to be done.

May need yet another WR as well if Coles gets really really pouty, which it looks like he will.

LWC611
QB play is key. I think we are ok at RB probably need a big play downfield WR but that take me back to QB. They play of the starter will be key to our success.
rick34125
It's amazing how much optimism the FO has shot into this organization in just a few days. As tempting as it is, it's still way early, and not worth getting ahead of myself until I see how the rest of the offseason goes.

Gainzo
Answer: time to offer the 1st rounder to the Browns for Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn. Are you serious? Anderson had a good season. Quinn? PeterNorth09
Are you serious? Anderson had a good season. Quinn? Not so much. C'mon mate, you are a very level headed poster. QB is by far the most important position and right now all the Jets have is an old game-manager and young scrub 99% of Jets fans are in love with. If the Jets could somehow get their hands on a franchise QB they could seriously contend for a SB next year.

If the Jets could somehow get their hands on a franchise QB they could seriously contend for a SB next year. Kellen played 8 games behind the worst O-line in football. That weakness has been turned into a strength this offseason. Trading a first rounder for someone who is just as unproven in Quinn is asinine, or even for a player who has had one good season. PeterNorth09
Do you think that Anderson (one good season) or Quinn is the answer at QB for the Jets? Yes, they're both better than what the Jets have right now at the QB position. As for the laundry list of excuses people are making for Kellen, Kurt Warner played behind an even worse offensive line last season in Arizona nad he threw 27 td passes. DaBrick Wall
Yes, they're both better than what the Jets have right now at the QB position. That's not really a fair statement since you haven't seen what Quinn can even do on an NFL field.
GandWFan
Do you think that Anderson (one good season) or Quinn is the answer at QB for the Jets? Well they are not letting go of Anderson, and Quinn is an unproven prospect. We have our franchise QB, Kellen Clemens. He will be the Anderson of 2008. PeterNorth09
That's not really a fair statement since you haven't seen what Quinn can even do on an NFL field. I've seen what Kellen Clemens can do and it's hoist up plenty of interceptions and never staying in the pocket because he can't see over most offensive and defensive linemen. You cannot honestly tell me you were impressed with what you saw last season. Quinn has a rocket arm and he's mobile. He didn't play last season because he's a rookie and Derek Anderson surprisingly had a very good year. I'd take either one of those guys over Penningtno, Clemens and Tui any day of the week. So you are comparing a 10 year vet with a green kid in his first real chance starting in the NFL. Apples and oranges. let's see... per wikipedia, Warner was awarded the 1999 Super Bowl MVP, becoming one of only six players to win both the league MVP and Super Bowl MVP awards in the same year. The others are Bart Starr in 1966, Terry Bradshaw in 1978, Joe Montana in 1989, Emmitt Smith in 1993, and Steve Young in 1994. That's pretty good company. Very fair comparision http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Warner

I call bs on the can't see over linemen. Kellen is not a midget, he is 6'2". Quinn is 6'4". 2 inches does not make that big of a difference. Most linemen these days are 6'6" to 6'8" tall, so Quinn can't see over them either. Both QBs as well as all other QBs depend on throwing lanes. And Kellen has a high overhand release point, so 2 inches means absolutely nothing. Kellen has a rocket arm and is mobile. He just doesn't have the bull **** hype coming out of ND. Are you easily impressed with names?
