WR situation not addressed.

Brad Smith is our #3. Clearly, he is awesome and this is not a need at all.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Stuckey come to TC and preseason and take over as the #3 spot. I also would not be totally shocked to see Keller lining up as the #3 WR at some points throughout the year.

Anyway, we have a bigger need at the #1 WR spot than the #3 spot.

Well, it's hard to draft a guy and have him come in immediately as the #1. We need someone that can be the #1 two years from now, but at this point in the draft, I doubt we'll find anyone that fits that bill. We still need to infuse some youth in the position before the end of the day.

wasnt there a wr Mario Urrutia that the Jets were supposed to be high on? maybe they will grab him late.

He is tall, that's all I know. I like the bio though:

Yes, that is true.

And if I remember correctly he was a 6th/7th round projection. I also remember him being around the 6'3 range. Not sure about his 40 time or workout #s though.

There are some guys who are still there that physically fit the mold. Whether they have it upstairs (or in their hands) to succeed at the NFL level remains to be seen:

Marcus Monk

Maurice Purify

Paul Hubbard

Marcus Henry

D.J. Hall

Mario Urrutia

Most (if not all) of these guys will suck. But they're still there.

I think they are figuring Chansi Stuckey will be OK this year-he can catch the ball and is a perfect slot guy. Either that or I suspect they have something in mind maybe a trade for a vet receiver or perhaps pick up like a Donte Stallworth who was released by NE. Also we HVE some trade bait-we have Chris Baker who pretty much quit on us and was replaced yesterday and I still hold out the hope that Chad Pennington is NOT on this team by July. As for Brad Smith as a WR? He's a good special teamer...

Chansi Stuckey will be our slot-#3 receiver this season along with Dustin Keller.Keller is going to be on the field in a wide receiver position a LOT this season I believe, along with Chris(cry-baby)Baker at TE.Stuckey is very good, but got hurt before he could really show it.He has explosive quickness which makes up for his average speed. He can get deep for us and open the field as will Keller. They will both stretch defenses and allow Coles and Cotchery to eat up the short and intermediate routes.Lots of YAC this year as the defenses will be spread out more giving receivers more room to run after the catch.

Not one mention of our brand-spanking new TE, Keller.

He is a pass-catching threat down the middle of the field. Something we haven't seen here since the Johnny Mitchell days. I feel lucky to have him on the team, minus the head-case.

So in an indirect way, we did address the issue. I guess the Jets FO had him ranked higher than any WR on the board at the time.

The Jets made it as obvious as they possibly could that they like Keller better than any WR in this draft. The man's a receiver in a small TE's body. I expect to see him on the field a lot as a second TE, H-back, and slot WR. Our offensive coordinator came from the Chargers and Antonio Gates. I'm sure he has some ideas on how to utilize this guy.

The Smith bashing on this site is over the top, IMHO. It frequently takes WR's who played WR in college three years for the light to come on at the NFL level, I think a WR who played QB in school should have the same cushion. He's got all the physical tools, and got some much needed on field experience last year. I'm looking forward to seeing him play this season.

If Stuckey can stay healthy, he could potentially be an answer at WR, too.

That said, I'd love for them to select a big target before the draft's over.

I predict we will cut both Baker and Franks and sign Matthew Sherry, TE, Villanova... We will them proceed to use both him and Keller in every play and dominate the league.

Chris Baker is trade bait now-the Jets ain't screwing around with these malcontent-ed players anymore-They should package a deal with him and Pennington and ship them off top a foreign land

agree on the Keller comments. Its clear that they thought he was a better asset to the passing game than the WRs available.

I havent read anything about Pennington being a malcontent. I also think you under estimate how important it is to have a good back up behind your starter in this league. My opinion on Baker is that he is the best all around TE we have, and I dont believe they drafted Keller with the idea of having him replace Baker as the full time TE. Maybe down the road in a year or two, but certainly not now. Keller was drafted to be used as a weapon in the passing game, but he needs to add some size and improve his blocking before we can feel comfortable throwing him out there as a 3 down player in 1 TE formations. Im not sure I want to downgrade from Baker to Franks either. I dont know how the situation with Baker will play out, but Im not ready to say screw him, he should hit the road. Not yet anyway

The Jets have certainly learned their lesson from the Kendall fiasco.

Now Baker cant afford to complain to the media because the CS can easily burry him on the bench behind Keller and Franks.

Not saying thats the only reason we drafted Keller, but it certainly is an added benefit.
