I will be surprised if Tanaka makes it to the All-Star break.  He is pitching scared.

Oh- there's the Yankee defense not giving him any help.

Tanaka will fall apart here.

Wasn't sharp tonight, battled through it. But hey.. he looked healthy. Still no pain.

• Most replaceable part of the everyday lineup might not be Stephen Drew at second base. It might be Carlos Beltran in right field. He’s been such a good hitter, even late into his career, but Beltran didn’t look good in spring training and he hasn’t looked good through this first week of the season. Meanwhile, the Yankees have alternatives in place. I wouldn’t trust Garrett Jones out there regularly, but Chris Young and Tyler Austin (from the right side) plus Slade Heathcott and Ramon Flores (from the left) give the Yankees some alternatives to consider at some point. I really believe we’ll see Austin and Heathcott, in some capacity, before the end of the year.

• Amazing how bizarre doors open every year. First call-up of the season went to Matt Tracy, a guy who wasn’t even invited to big league camp. The second went to Kyle Davis, who was completely dismissed and overlooked in big league camp. Neither was even close to the top of the pecking order, but circumstances were what they were, and so they got the first two opportunities. It’s just funny to see it play out so early in the season. I wonder if we’ll have another fresh reliever tonight.

• Everything about Masahiro Tanaka is going to take time for use to fully judge and understand. He’s adjusting in every way, both in terms of staying healthy and staying productive. Last year’s numbers seem to show a trend of big league hitters adjusting to hit his four-seam fastball, and now Tanaka’s trying to adjust by throwing fewer of them. That makes sense. If there’s some element of health concern involved in the decision, that also makes sense. We have to wait and see how his elbow holds up and how he continually tweaks his approach to determine whether any of this — the rehab protocol, the adjusted schedule, the two-seam approach — will pay off. We don’t know anything definitive right now.

By far the best hitter on the team through the first 2 series. Almost every one of his AB's have been competitive. Question now is can he sustain his success.

Wouldn't it be funny if he was back on the roids this year but has a better masking agent??

Not the same guy though. Hopefully he is building arm strength.

Barely made it through 5 innings after being spotted a 7 run lead.

He'd be the 5th starter on the Mets and that's only due to the Wheeler injury..

With 2 outs and the bases loaded in the 7th, Brett Gardner due up but leaves the game with an apparent wrist injury... so in comes Stephen Drew... in the midst of all my cursing the guy hits a grand frickin slam. Baseball is so unpredictable. Yanks lead 6-4.

Valid points. Im just saying everyone questioned his health coming into the season, well so far he's healthy. He improved off his first start, lets hope he continues to improve.

According to Marly Rivera (translated article), right-hander Ivan Nova is set to face hitters during a session of live batting practice at the Yankees’ complex in Tampa tomorrow. Nova is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and this will be his first time facing hitters as part of his rehab.
