Stephen Hill doesn't need to catch 60 passes to have a huge impact on the Jets offense this season.

He is the most physically gifted, and most dangerous, player the Jets have on offense. He has a speed and height advantage on every CB in the NFL. Defenses will notice that.....

It's Sparano's job to MAKE SURE THAT DEFENSES NOTICE THAT!

Just running him down the field should draw a couple of defenders, and make life easier for Holmes and Keller. He's a decoy, but just throwing the ball 20-30 yards down the field in his direction, just 3-4 times a game, will keep the defense honest, and make the rest of the offense better.

The main problem the Jets had last year is defenses knew they wouldn't, and couldn't, stretch the field more than 10-15 yards. Makes playing defense so much easier when you play inside a prison cell instead of a football field. Stephen Hill can change that, if used correctly.

Watch how Sparano and Sanchez use Hill this season. It's kind of important in the Jets success, or lack thereof, on offense this season.....

I agree, but he has to perform as well. That is to say, he has to show some ability to catch the football. If he doesn't do that then the threat won't be taken seriously.

His rep coming out of Ga.Tech was he failed to catch or dropped a mess of balls. Preseason may mean very little but so far those issues are still with him.

Further this offense is designed to run first, and when it does throw, dumps off or throws swing passes into the flats. WRs are an afterthought by design. We have a host of posters who decry the awfulness of the Jets' WR corps, but simply it almost doesn't matter. Whether it's Sanchez or Tebow neither is throwing a mess of fly nor go routes, and they will only be asked to throw 7-9 yards on the rare occasion they are asked to pass at all.

Why in such an offense you don't have a decent 2/5s of an OL, a decent RB or 2 blocking TEs-a total mystery. Ask our accountant why. But primo WRs are pointless on purpose.

Indeed, but after you factor in that huge negative, how was he still a top 3-5 WR in the draft? Because he has big time strengths too - speed, size, athleticism.

It's tough to line up 5 pro-bowl players on a single offensive line, so we just have 3. Woe is us.

Meh, if this offense is anything like the one in Miami under Sparano....Marshall and Bess got plenty of work.

You just may be right. One of the missing ingredients in my mind last year was Braylon and the ability to stretch the field. I like Stephen Hill. At the draft I thought Alshon Jeffrey was more polished but liked how we targeted Hill. He may be raw but he's athletically gifted with a good work ethic. Give him a year or two and he could develop into our most explosive offensive player in a while.

Hill caught 5 and dropped two last game.

I can deal with that ratio from a rook, especially if they are 20 yards down the field......

BD

Not when those two drops cost a 3rd down conversion to keep a drive going and the other is a bouce off the numbers which turns into a pick.

You'll get tired of that by week 3
