2015 team: New York Giants

JPP did not play as well against the run as he has in the past, but 41 total pressures and six batted passes in half a season proved he can still make an impact.

Basically the same thing as the Cardinals signing Dwight Freeney, except younger with fewer fingers. Still an effective pass rusher for a defense that specifically could use a guy who knows how to do that from an outside position.

Only of we get a 5 finger discount.

Nicely done.

But I have to wonder what is with the obsession with cheap this, cheap that? Didn't we try this during the Idzik years? What you want is VALUE-FOR-MONEY, not CHEAP. Huge difference.

A pass rusher who probably is looking for a one year deal for a million or two isn't the worst way to get some VALUE-FOR-MONEY. 6 PDs in half a season for a DE that almost blew his hand off is pretty badass, and is a nice little indicator of a still possibly quality defender against the pass. 41 pressures isn't so bad either.

Keep in mine when talking about cheap that the highest ranked FA the Jets will actually have a shot at is Wilkerson.

Yeah I got noting against giving it a shot but "cheap" isn't short hand for what you just said. It's the wrong word and it stands for a different idea. "Bargain" is a better word as it signifies a thing is worth more than you paid. Dirt is cheap, but also nearly worthless. Maybe I am being too picky I don't know.

Isn't he supposedly going to command a big payday though? Sports radio (which I am not giving any credibility to, just using them as an example since I haven't heard anything else about JPP) is saying he would be in the 10 - 12 million a season area. I am not interested at that price.

Sign him on a one year deal. Low rush, high reward. If he ends up returning to his old ways, let him walk the next season and hope for a compensation pick.

Jets are allowed to sign players once they perform well, you know. You can't compete with 53 $2m/year players.

Agree, one year show me deal probably in his future.

Yeah, that's not what was being said.

Doesn't fit the 3-4, horrible versus the run and more suited to play Luke Skywalker in a empire Strikes Back remake.  Pass.

Doesn't have to fit the 3-4, this is specifically about getting a pass rusher. No different than the Cardinals picking up late career Dwight Freeney for their defense. 3rd and passing down player.

It is exactly what was said in the post I responded to. Sign him cheap, if he does well get a compensatory pick. No consideration to actually then paying him for performance. You should read the posts people are responding to for context and stuff.

Especially for a guy who had 1 sack in 8 games last season.

He won't be playing with the club next year. He had Fitzpatrick sacked but he couldn't grab him, so the club slipped right off.

That said, he is a one dimensional player that is much easier to block because of his physical limitations.
