Like Brandon Mebrane to replace Snacks but we probably don't have the money for this.

Is Cam Thomas still a FA....solid and cheap vet that is a pure NT and would allow Simon to develop with a vet presence alongside him

Great, so Fitz might not be back, Ivory's gone, Snacks looks like he's going to the Giants. I've been a Jets fan for 30+ years and this is just what I needed: another rebuilding year. Here's a story that sums up me being a New York sports fan:

A few years ago, my church went on a field trip to a game at MetLife stadium. The Jets of course lost to the Dolphins in a blowout.

The experience culminated in the sight of a drunken Jets fan in the 4Q simultaneously vomiting and pissing his pants. The Monsignor at my church stood up and loudly proclaimed MetLife Stadium as the literal Hell on Earth, and started frantically doing signs of the crosses, until someone shouted, "Oh yeah Father? Wait until you see the Mets play at Citifield!"

And then the Mets went to the World Series.

The Jets aren't rebuilding

Just go to sleep until August.  You seem to have no understanding of FA.  This happens every year and all 32 teams lose "special" talent.  The fact that we had talent worth a damn should help us next year when we pick up some compensatory picks.  Every year is a rebuilding year for every team.  Do you not agree?  Do teams keep all their players every year?  Man some of you fans are just drama queens.

Snacks was a 2 down fatty. We won't miss him too bad. We got other big fatties, and some serious talent at D Line. He got way overpaid so if it comes down to keeping him or Mo, Mo is the better player. Ivory vanished at the end of the season, and wasn't much of a story until the last two seasons. His play at the end of the season made Bilal Powell look All Pro. BILAL POWELL. We just brought in Matt Forte, an older but once elite running back. He is a guy who can catch too. He brings a lot more to a Chan Gailey offense than Chris 2 Gap Ivory. Fitz was nothing. He was brought in to be a backup. He plays hard, but he is also the result of a system he knows, a offense line that isn't given enough credit, and the best wide receiving tandem in the league. Relax until its time not to relax. And right now, 4 hours and 36 mintues into free agency, is not the time to stop relaxing.

Forte is our new Ladanian Tomlinson. Aging, talented RB who can catch out of the backfield.

I said that in another thread, and its true. I am really excited about having him on board. Unless he suddenly decides to suck completely, he is going to bring a whole new look to this offense.

Strange but true: Matt Forte & Chris Ivory each had 1,287 total yards last year.   Forte played 13 games last year on a less talented team then ours.  Since 2008 he also leads the league in most scrimmage yards (thats yards beyond the LOS)

This is a very good signing, pick up someone like Khiry Robinson to be your bruiser and draft a young talented RB.

I would post Forte's stats, but the formatting gets all messed up. Basically, over the course of Forte's career he has been really durable and a great running back a very good receiver out of the backfield. Complete upgrade over Ivory.

Due to the salary cap, there is so much polarization of compensation and classes in the NFL these days.  You've got your proven impact, and perceived impact FA's, who are hitting their prime getting the fat contracts. Then the young guys who are succeeding on the field but do not have the fat deals yet -- underpaid but working their asses off in hopes of getting a big payday when they hit FA.  There are FA guys who are still relatively young, and have been around for a few years, but haven't gotten their shot yet. Then there are the vets who have proven talent and can still play, but because of age and/or contract issues have fallen out of favor.  The latter two groups, equivalent to the NFL trash heap, is chock full of opportunities for smart teams if they are selective in their scavenging.  I am not worried about how the Jets are playing this out.  It is the smart move with limited cap room.

Wow the coloring on that first list was awful. Hopefully no one scrolling through that is epileptic.

Would love to see us sign an older vet receiver to a cheap deal just for depth incase we lose marshal or decker to injury. I know Fitz is a priority but I wouldn't mind them signing a cheap QB maybe bring in Flynn and have a QB competition make Fitz a crap offer to come compete for the job.
