They asked him to hire a OC with NFL experience.  It was perfectly understandable given Darnold.

Wow, I turned this game off when it was 28-3 and tuned in the Arizona State game and watched Herm blow the game when he decided to go for a two point conversion rather than kicking the extra point and going into OT.

What Rhule is doing there is amazing. Unbelievable really. But Macc and CJ picked Gase. 

It really is crazy to think we basically had this guy locked up AND had Mike McCarthy publicly stating the only job he wanted was the NY Jets job and we chose Gase. It’s nothing short of amazing. The jets blow my minf on a daily basis but this one had long standing potential to the worst since bellichick left during his intro presser.

I really wanted Rhule, but this is an important point.

Giving Mac the knife makes Gase a valuable hire, no matter what his record is.
