4.  Name the 8 players banned in the 1919 Black Sox scandal.  1 more to go!

5.  In the history of the White Sox, 13 different players have hit 35+ HR in a season.  How many can you name?  You collectively named 10 of them (Belle, Thome, Thomas, Konerko, Dunn, Frazier, Ordonez, Allen, Fisk, Kittle).  3 more to go!

Gwynn, Hoffman, Martinez, Goose, Winfield, Molitor, Pedro are all correct!

Stewart and Mcgriff are not HOFer's.

7 HOFers left to go!

I knew the last guy would come to me.  Utility infielder Fred McMullin.

5) Carlos May?  Can I ask for a clue?  The HOF guy that Rickey played with in ANA, was that player also one of the 3 HR guys for the 2000 Angels?

Correct!

Entering 2020, they're over 1,000 wins ahead of the next program on the list, Texas (founded in 1895):

https://www.ncaa.com/news/baseball/article/2019-06-27/9-winningest-college-baseball-teams-ncaa-history

Fordham baseball

1. Fordham — 4,517

Seasons: 159
Winning percentage: .656

Back in 1859, Fordham played in the first ever nine-man college baseball game under current rules. Fordham won the game 33-11, and they haven’t looked back. Heading into the 2020 season, Fordham had won 4,517 games — over 1,000 more than the next-winningest team, Texas. If the Rams never played another game of baseball after the 2019 season, it would take Texas 36 more years to become the winningest team at their current rate.

2014 -- was it Jose Abreu?  Jermaine Dye for either 06 or 08.

And a guess for the 2000 Angels.  Tim Salmon, Troy Glaus and Darin Erstad?

Abreu (2014) and Dye (2006) are correct!  1 to go (36 - 2008).

Glaus is correct!  He hit 47 that year.  Still need 2 others.

And I was sure I had two of the three.  Assumed Glaus and Salmon were correct.  Erstad was a long shot.  Other guys I was thinking of were Garret Anderson and Jim Edmonds, Either or both of them the other 2?  Although i think Edmonds was probably a Cardinal by 2000.

Yes, Edmonds was in STL, he left the Angels after the '99 season.

Here's one to work on while we try to get the rest of @Jetsfan80 guys. The 1969 Mets had a record of 100-62. What team did they have the best winning percentage against, and against who did the have the worst?

Not sure about the best, but we always struggled against Houston back then, so I will say the Astros for worst record.  Best record, how about the expansion Expos (even though we lost to them on Opening Day).

Correct on Houston, we were 2-10 against them and outscored something like 75-40. Expos were a good guess, but not correct. You are on the right track, though.?

Got another one for you guys:

7) Name the only sluggers to hit 300+ HR in a decade, for these decades:

  • 2010's (3 hitters):
  • 1980's (2):
  • 1960's (5):
  • 1950's (2):
  • 1930's (3):
  • 1920's (1):

So that's 16 total hitters you would need to name.  I didn't include the Steroid Era decades (90's and 2000's) because there were too many, and it pisses me off still, lol.

And none accomplished the feat in the 70's or the WWII 40's, in case you were curious.

1980s:  Mike Schmidt, Andre Dawson

1960s: Aaron, Mays, McCovey, Killebrew, Robinson

1950s:: Mathews, Mantle

1930s: Foxx, Ruth, Gehrig

1920s: Ruth

2010s: Cabrera, Pujols, Trout

Correct on the following:

1980s:  Schmidt

1960s:  ALL, well done

1950s:  Neither!

1930s:  Foxx, Gehrig (not Ruth)

1920s:  Ruth is correct

2010s:  None of the 3

So you got 8 of the 16 so far.  8 to go!

Not sure what I was thinking guessing Ruth for the 30s.  He was out of baseball by '35.  He woudl ahve had to average 60 per season, and since he only did that once, no way it could be him.  Embarrassingly bad guess.  Although in my defense, I was heavily sedated earlier today and may not be thinking straight.  How about Mel Ott instead, forgotten guy who is the answer to a ton of 30s trivia questions.

Mel Ott is correct!

Don't be too hard on yourself.  I would have guessed Ruth too.  When you hit more HR in a season than entire teams, and do that on multiple occasions, even 6 years of Ruth could have conceivably resulted in 300+ HR being hit.

Ruth hit 198 HR in the 1930's so maybe a few less beers and hot dogs and he might have gotten there.
