DJ LeMahieu/ State of the team

So the Yankees over the last 10 + years have stacked their lineup with hitters that strike out a lot, can't hit for average, and can not produce runs in any way other than slugging. So we finally get what I consider to be one of the best hitters in the game (DJ) and they have not offered him the deal he deserves ? Cut the bullsh*t of this extending the qualifying offer and give this guy what he deserves now because he is simply the best player on the team by a large margin. Oh and while they are on that get another real starting pitcher to complement Cole like maybe Bauer who made it clear he would come to the Yankees. While Cashman has constructed a solid lineup the guy never makes the one good FA signing needed in our starting rotation to win big playoff games. Of all the top level teams we have the worst starting staff by a large Margin.

The reason why the Yankees can't get over the hump and win a playoff series when it counts is because this team simply can't hit the better pitchers they face in these situations. Watching our big hitters constantly strike out gets infuriating in big games. The reason the 96-2000 team was so good was because they made contact with the baseball and could manufacture a run when needed late in a game when in a tough pitching duel. This current team can not do that. Waiting for the three run homer year after year equals no world series year after year. While Cashman values big home run hitter's and a bullpen he has consistently ignored starting pitching and has ignored a true shut down starter until he finally signed Cole.

The Yankees need to sign DJ, Sign Bauer and maybe add another hitter that can hit for average not bat .130 like Sanchez a guy who not only is terrible on defense but now forgot how to hit which was the only reason he was behind the plate. Kyle Higashioka is a real catcher who played fantastic and can handle a staff (which is what we need more than Sanchez crappy average) Sanchez should be traded and we need to bring in a hitter that can actually make contact with the baseball.

The Yankees's probably can't get out from under that terrible contract of Stantons but if this team was able to dump him and dump Sanchez let Gardner retire they could probably replace those guys with players who actually make contact with the baseball.

The Yankees have the chance to sign both LeMahieu and Bauer from the Reds which would put them in a position to finally win a WS and as he has done the past 10 years Cashman will **** this up. he's been passing on top notch pitchers up until Cole and with all the injured starters you would think he would have added Morton who is ALWAYS a Yankee killer and he let that get away as well . Cashman has no choice but to have a contending team with the way the Yankees farm system has been and the top notch scouts we have but the guy never makes the right big move to secure a WS

Insult's LeMahieu with sh*tty QO

Won't sign Bauer will stick with his oft injured pitching staff behind Cole rather than having Cole, Bauer, Severino, German, Montgomery/Garcia

I think they resign Lemaheiu

no idea about Bauer.  Supposedly Bauer and Cole don’t like eachother so it might not be good for the clubhouse and the Yankees like to avoid drama

Bauer would be a great signing.  Let’s see if he and Cole get along

Not sure why they don't get along but most of your WS winners have a 1-2 punch in their pitching rotation and the Yankees have not had that for 10 years. Severino never proved he could handle the post season and Tanaka has done well but not well enough. Bauer and Cole would be very hard for any team to deal with similar to Verlander/ Cole when they had that going for a year in Houston when Idiot Cashman whiffed on that as well 2x . He also Whiffed on Morton knowing full well if Morton went to a contender he always gives the Yankees hitters a really hard time and he did again this year. Never been impressed with Cashman he inherited the late 90's team built by Michaels and from then on he never made the big pitching signing he needed to make other than Sabathia

I tend to agree with this. There are few GM's in pro sports who have done less with so much more than everyone else.

What do you guys think of the Lindour speculation?

Once again Cashman chasing the bat when he needs an arm. Or in this case, multiple arms.

We need PITCHING.

How many times in the last 15 years have the Yankees entered the season with the best starting staff in baseball on paper? NONE. NOT ONCE. This is 100% on Cashman. He just keeps trading assets for bats and says "Oh we just added another 20 home runs and 30 rbi's to the lineup".

It's the pitching, stupid. He doesnt get it.

Infield is a need because LeMahieu is a free agent.   Sanchez’s tender is $6 mil a drop in the bucket.

I agree they need a top pitcher.

Sanchez is an absolute dog. He has no plan at the plate and he cant even catch Chapman's fastball. He's a frickin cancer on this team.

Why can't we give DJ a fifth year? 100/5 seems like a no brainer to me, this guys going to be feasting for all 5 years anyway. If Cashman doesn't get this done we're screwed.

Let’s see how the Lindor stuff plays out

That’s over the top don’t you think? I’m a Mets fan but I feel for the guy. He’s lost right now and his confidence is in the toilet.

I have no idea why some Mets fans clamor for signing LeMahieu. He is largely a byproduct of the home fields he has been afforded playing at.  He has been fortunate to play at Colorado and Yankee Stadium. 2 of the best hitting ballparks in the league.

At Citi Field, he would just be a very good player. Certainly not worth the contract he is seeking. He would basically be, Jeff McNeil.  I am sure Sandy A realizes this.

Doesnt it just feel like Cashman is gonna do nothing significant to the starting rotation?

Nice job trading for Stanton 3 years ago, btw. A guy we didnt need. Paying him 25 mill a year when we could have used those $$ for starting pitching.

Cashman does a TERRIBLE job allocating the payroll properly.

It’s looking like they aren’t even resigning Tanaka
