Sam Darnold never had a chance to look good. He was set-up to fail: Let's surround this kid with A+ fire power.

While Wilson and Darnold have similar skill sets, here’s why Zach should be the guy and why Darnold could have plateaued even if not in ideal situations...

Sam Darnold needs to work on his footwork. This has been the case since his freshman year at USC. He has had 3 coaching staffs and a private coach and Sam Darnold (6 years later!) still needs to work on his footwork. You can blame one coach but 4 sets of coaching including his private coach?

Wilson showed clear progression from his freshman year. Darnold is still the same QB he was freshman year at USC. Edit: he improved his fumbling issues.

Unless Denver or Carolina offer far above draft chart value for pick #2, draft Wilson.

The Jets should not be drafting any defensive players until the 4th or 5th rd. Multiple Olineman, WRs, TE's and RBs in the first 4 rounds. Stop screwing around.

They will.  Saleh is a good enough coach that he can coach up this defense.  Offensive playmakers are the focus of this team right now.

Bro, I think they will F up and draft multiple defensive players by the 5th rd. I'd be shocked if 1 of the picks in the 1st 2 rds wasnt for the defense, as well. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Yet he sucked in college, too, outside of one Rose Bowl game.

Also Bridgewater and his sub-Pennington arm showed he's a much more versatile & dynamic receiver. Or even with McCown when he was still just a 2nd-year receiver.

Removing half/partial games:

  • 1 yr with McCown: ~69 ypg (1100 yd pace)
  • 1 yr with Bridgewater: ~70 ypg (1100 yd pace)
  • 2 yrs with Darnold: ~54 ypg (860 yd pace)

Anderson's not the greatest example to use, seeing how much worse his numbers were with Darnold, even in comparison to such non top-20 QBs like McCown/Bridgewater.
